The world of comedy is occasionally guilty of being a man's game. Louis CK, Kevin Hart and many other successful male comedians frequently make headlines for their work, which can make it hard to sort through and find some notable women. Here are a few to keep your eyes on, because they are undoubtedly hilarious and destined for greatness.
Lauren Lapkus
You might know Lauren Lapkus from "Orange Is the New Black" or "Jurassic World," but what you might not know is her vast career as an improv comedian. She has a podcast called "With Special Guest Lauren Lapkus," and often makes appearances on tv shows like HBO's "Animals." and IFC's "Comedy Bang! Bang!" Recently, she starred in her own episode of Netflix's "The Characters," a sketch comedy show where each episode is focused on a different comedian. Lauren Lapkus is known for her original characters and improv skills.
Aidy Bryant
Despite being a fairly recent addition to the "Saturday Night Live" cast, Aidy Bryant has already established a prestigious comedy career for herself. She has appeared on tv shows like Comedy Central's "Broad City," HBO's "Girls," and Louis CK's web series "Horace & Pete." In February, she wrote and starred in a short film on Vimeo called "Darby Forever." Bryant is known for her very apparent knack for comedy and her charming personality.
Chelsea Peretti
Before she was a cast member on Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine," Chelsea Peretti did stand-up and wrote for NBC's "Parks and Recreation." Her stand-up special "Chelsea Peretti: One of the Greats," an obscure, semi-ironic take on the stand-up special format, is also available on Netflix. Peretti's indescribably unique sense of humor is one-of-a-kind, and definitely sets her apart from the rest.
Jen Kirkman
Frequent "Chelsea Lately" guest Jen Kirkman has recently made her way into the world of stand-up. Her special "I'm Gonna Die Alone (And I Feel Fine)" premiered on Netflix last year, and her two books "I Can Barely Take Care of Myself: Tales From a Happy Life Without Kids" and "I Know What I'm Doing and Other Lies I Tell Myself: Dispatches from a Life Under Construction" are both winners with critics and fans alike. Jen Kirkman's style of comedy is very personal, and makes for some really big laughs.
Noël Wells
You might recognize Wells from Aziz Ansari's Netflix show "Master of None," but she actually started out as a cast member on the 39th season of "Saturday Night Live." After her first and only season in 2013, she went on to make a short film called "Forev." She is also a consulting writer on the upcoming Netflix show "Green Eggs and Ham" based off of the Dr. Suess book of the same name, and is developing a pilot for Comedy Central as well. Wells' subtle humor and killer impressions are irresistible and spot-on, making her one of the funniest females in the biz.
