Derek Shepherd's death was downright cruel. He was loved by many, including me. Many will never be able to come to terms with how and why this happened to such a great man. For such a brilliant woman, it disappoints me that Shonda Rhimes had the decency to put her viewers through this.
1. He died as a result of saving four lives.
He witnessed this horrendous car crash, saved the lives of all the victims and then died after leaving the crime scene. Bad things really do happen to good people.
2. He was not just hit by a car. He was t-boned by a semi-truck.

Shonda Rhimes, as usual, took an already heartbreaking scene of a car crash and turned it into something unbearable. A semi-truck??? Really? No respect Shonda.
3. He had a slow, painful death.

Why couldn't he die on impact? Instead, we heard his every thought while the doctors failed to make the wrong calls. He had to lay on the operating table knowing there was no hope left. Then Shonda brought back his incompetent doctor when he died... So insensitive. Now Meredith has to see and work with her daily.
4. He has a wife and kids.

Throughout the show, Shonda has killed off numerous main characters, but no one had such a strong family unit outside of the hospital. He received and provided love and care for Meredith and the kids. He had to die knowing he would not see his children grow up. How rude!
5. Not to mention, he did not get to meet his unborn child.

If there is one thing Derek loved, it was his family. He could not wait to expand his family and then he was not even alive to meet his second beautiful baby boy.
6. Meredith has been through enough.

The least Shonda Rhimes could have done was give her a happy ending. Between losing almost all of her family and most of her friends, almost drowning in freezing cold water and surviving a plane crash, she was nearly broken. Derek was her sanity, the father of her children, the love of her life and best friend.
7. He changed medicine forever and was not alive to see it.

8. He was the glue, hope and backbone of the show.

9. We already lost McSteamy, Lexi, Izzie, George and so on.

Have a heart, Shonda. Grey-Sloan Memorial is a family. There is such an emotional attachment after 11 years of being aired on T.V. You can not just kill off such great people!
10. He is irreplaceable.
The show will never be the same without him. Derek Shepherd had a positive impact on everyone around him from season 1 to season 11.
We will NEVER forget him.
