As a child we spend so much time wishing we could grow up. At 15, we want to be 16 so we can drive. At 16 we want to be 18 so we can legally be considered an adult. We can't wait to get out on our own and enjoy college. At 18, 19, and 20, we want to be 21 so we can legally drink alcohol. At this point it seems there isn't an age to look forward to. There are no more milestones where you can now legally do something. This is why 21 is the best and the worst age to be.
Benefits of being 21:
-Legally being able to drink or buy alcohol
-Getting a new drivers license picture (because i'm sure we all want a chance to make it better)
-Being able to join in on the festivities at holidays and family gatherings
-You're now considered an adult by almost everyone (yes, at 18 you're legally an adult but not many people treat you like one, nor do many act like one)
-Getting into all the bars confidently showing your ID
-Being able to celebrate your friends turning 21
-You can now legally gamble in all states
The down side of being 21:
-Now that you can go to bars you'll probably being spending even more money on alcohol than you already have
-You have no more fun age milestones to reach
-You are now considered an adult by almost everyone (no more calling up your parents to fix your problems)
-You only have one year of undergrad left and for most of us we'll then be off to the real world
-Your getting old and have few years left to thrive in the young adult scene
-People expect you to have your life figured out
Turning 21 is something most people look forward too. It's a fun birthday to celebrate and make a big event out of. But once the excitement wears down, and the celebrating is over, being 21 isn't all that great unless you like to drink or gamble. So enjoy the excitement while it lasts, because there are no more birthday's that will be as exciting as this one.
