No one likes being called the “F-word”. There is a certain connotation that the “F-word” denotes. That the person, this seeming insult was directed to, is annoying, frustrating, and maybe they speak their mind too much. Most of all being an “F-word” has seemed to become downright offensive. People these days would much rather be called a c*nt or b*tch than the “F-word”.
While some embrace the title of the “F-word” some people squirm when they are referred to as a "F*******". Including myself. I do not think of myself as one, I think of myself as a person: a person who works, just as hard as others, to get by in this world. Work ethic reflects itself, so does intelligence. I do not think of myself as better than others- quite the opposite frankly. The only way I believe I can get ahead in this world is hard work, just like everyone else. I am not asking to be given certain things, or certain privileges because of what I am as the “F-word” has seemed to become misunderstood .
While “F-word”s come in all shapes and sizes like everything, we have those “F-word”s who are absolutely ridiculous. Wait-- strike that. Those people are not "F-word"s. Those people practice the hate that they seemingly want barred. The “F-word” comes from a place of equality and understanding basic rights. The “F-word” is not just about screaming "free the nipple". Or down talking any person who chooses to stay home and take care of their children. Being an “F-word” is accepting that everyone has the freedom to do what they want.
Anyone can be an “F-word”. Anyone who believes in stripping away the outside of a person and valuing who they are and not what they are- is in some way: an “F-word” Granting basic equalities. Some "F-word"s demand that time be repaid. But the movement is not about that. It has never been about living in the past, it has been trying to change the future. Yes; there is a precedent. But in time humanity will see the benefits of this "change".
A celebrity announcing that they are an “F-word” makes news. It shouldn't. the "F-word" shouldn't have to be news, it should be the way society is.
Here I am: a girl with the fundamental freedom to do what I wish; through hard work and my education. Ultimately: I should not need to mention to I am a girl. That is what being a feminist is about.
