Miley Cyrus: Who Is She Really?

In the past couple of years Miley Cyrus has truly out done herself. Most people around me in a college atmosphere truly “hate” on her, but really, in my opinion, I believe that deep down everyone loves her, or at least likes her music.

If you do not know about Miley Cyrus here is a quick biography on my favorite artist.

On November 23, 1992, in Franklin, Tennessee Miley was born with her original name Destiny Hope Cyrus. She was born to popular country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and his wife Leticia, becoming a sibling to five other children in the Cyrus household. She began acting at a young age starring in multiple films, including a guest role on the show "Doc" and a role in Tim Burton’s "Big Fish."

At age 13, Miley scored the role in a new Disney series, "Hannah Montana," after initially being rejected. In this television series she plays an average teen who lives a double life as a famous pop singer, with her father Billy cast as her dad in the show. The television show in aired in 2006, where it quickly became one of the most popular and most watched shows on cable. Not only did the television show strive on T.V., but also in music with the Hannah Montana soundtrack album topping the charts. The 2006 album debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Top 100. Teens all over the world quickly became obsessed with Miley and her role as Hannah.

A year later in 2007, the success of Hannah Montana produced a second album titled "Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus," which sold about 1.1 million copies. With the release of the second album, Miley went on tour and boasted 54 different concert dates.

In 2008, she changed her name from Destiny Hope Cyrus to Miley Ray Cyrus officially. That same year Miley also found herself amidst a controversy for posing for somewhat revealing photographs taken by the fame photographer Annie Leibovitz. These images appeared in Vanity Fair magazine that same year. There was a lot of criticism that did little damage to her career. Later on in 2008, Miley released her second studio album, "Breakout," which was very successful, reaching the top of the pop charts.

Then in 2009, Miley provided her fans with an autobiography, Miles to Go, featuring previously unseen photos, family stories and a look into her personal life. Later on that year she also released to singles, “When I Look at You” and one of her most popular songs “Party in the U.S.A.” which sold about 5.38 million copies and earned her a spot among the best-selling singles of all time.

In 2010, Cyrus starred in the film "The Last Song," based of the novel written by Nicholas Sparks. After filming that movie, she started dating her co-worker from the film, Liam Hemsworth. The two eventually became engaged and but broke up shortly thereafter.

There has been a lot of controversy on what Miley is doing now and how she has broken free from the image of being a Disney star. By breaking free from that role, she cut her hair, started to make more edgy fashion choices and changed her behavior out in public. No one was really prepared for how far she would or could take her new image. During the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, Miley really stunned the audience with her lewd and raunchy performance of her latest song “We Can’t Stop.” After the stunt that she pulled, there was a lot of controversy, which boosted sales of her fourth studio album "Bangerz." Her new album sold 270,000 copies in its first week of being out.

As of last year, Cyrus’s name was still huge in the headlines, covering everything from her kissing Katy Perry, getting new tattoos, adopting a new dog and so on. Many people believe that she is being trashy, but in my opinion she isn’t. She is being herself, and is doing a damn good job at getting attention and boosting her career. Currently she is dating Patrick Schwarzenegger, they have been seeing each other for some time now.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
