If you weren’t following The World Cup you are probably wondering who this guy Tim Howard is and why he's been all over social media. If you have yet to see his memes take a look at these Tim Howard memes.
To start off, Tim Howard is a 35-year-old goal keeper for the US National Team who got named Man of the Match after making 16 saves against Belgium (the most saves ever seen in a World Cup game). Howard did so well that FIFA sprang a drug-test on him immediately after the game. He is the reason the US made it to overtime. Belgium had 27 shots on goal compared to 9 from the US.
Even though the US did end up losing the game, it really could have gone either way. In the 90th minute, Clint Dempsey had a chance to put Belgium away for good, but over shot it just a smidge.
Howard did so well that Belgium's team captain, Vincent Kompany, applauded his work with this tweet, showing magnificent sportsmanship.
Howard currently plays on the club team Everton in England, if you ever want to watch more of his match ups. Here are all his saves in one video.
