Where Has My Country Gone?

Why does the U.S. need to change again?

Please remember these are my views. I am not speaking for anyone else when I share these ideas.

The United States of America is my home. I love calling this great nation my home. But where has this country gone? Back in the 1980's, this country had one thing on their minds and you know what that was? "Beat those commie bastards" Miracle. Now someone is going to comment that this wasn't the only problem, "what about this?" etc. That was not my point of saying that. My point was to show that our country was united at that time in our history. At that time, you were left wing or right wing but it didn't matter. Because we all had a common goal and that goal was to beat the U.S.S.R. or Soviet Union. How about WWII? Everyone knew we had a job to go help Western Europe and you can bet your bottom dollar those men went over when they were called. How about women getting the right to vote and be an equal in society? I mean, our country even rallied together during prohibition. But what is this great country like in modern day? Let's take a look.

First I'll talk about politics and how divided of a country we are. We have our classic two parties, the Democrats and the Republicans. Back in the day, your politics didn't decide who you were, your everyday decisions did. In today's world if you support Trump you're a racist who hates Mexicans. If you like Hillary you support a murderer. You may not support her actions during that time, but you like her so you will always be in favor of murderers. If you support Bernie you're a hippy who wants free stuff without having to go the extra mile and bust your back to get it. Are these true? Most likely not. To some people they may be true, but I can promise you for the people I know who support these candidates almost none of these are true. But because of these stereotypes, we turn the parties against each other! I mean even the democrats are against each other. You have Bernie supporters going at Hillary supporters and vise versa. You have Trump supporters being jumped and hospitalized because they are Republican. People, these parties are ruining this country. We can no longer let these views run and dictate our lives. We have to be able to express ourselves without getting jumped or any of that nonsense. We got Curt Schilling, one of the greatest pitchers in MLB history, who gets fired from ESPN because he shared his views about the whole bathroom law idea. I understand that people will have their own opinions but there's no need to jump at them. You have to respect each individual and hear out why they like this person or idea because to you it might not make sense, but if you listen it just might.

What makes me sick more than anything is that we have people burning our flags and no one is standing up to these people. I don't care who you are or what you do, you have no right to stomp on our great flag that millions of people died for while they're out fighting so you can have that peaceful 8 hours you need. Just remember, someone's out there dying for you wearing that flag on their sleeve so you can then burn it and step on it because you don't like what this country is doing? Stand up for what you believe in, but ruining our flag is something that should never cross your mind.

Another thing I can no longer stand is parents trying to live through their kids or can't stand to let their kids be taught a certain way. When it comes to coaching, parents do not like the coaches to use harsh language towards their kids because it is very immature. But, I hear parents swearing at their kids all the time. The University of Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido is one of the greatest college baseball coaches of all time but he uses foul language. He uses it in every sentence. But the thing with him is that he swears, so most parents wouldn't like him and would assume he's bad. But his secret is he uses it but takes all the blame for his guys messing up.

Go ahead take a look. You'll find him swearing, but after his rampages he says it's 100% his fault. Parents, it is not your job to tell the educator how to educate. If your child is having success with this teacher, you will love them forever. But when they give your child a bad grade, you blast them on the smallest flaw you see. Why is that? Because your son or child didn't get the straight A's you were hoping for? Or was it because your child got distracted because of their A.D.D and they weren't accommodating your child? I am a student in college who wants to become a teacher but is actually scared to at this point because I could lose my job in a matter of 1-2 months for giving a student a bad grade. Teachers and other employees who work with children shouldn't have to fear every time they go to help a child. They are there to help. Either learn to accept that teaching style or get out because they shouldn't have to change for your child.

My final criticism is definitely the double standards we have. A cop kills someone and there are riots going that night saying it was unjust and all sorts of allegations. But when a cop gets shot, everyone sits at home thinking, "oh well cop got shot but they choose to put their lives in the line". People, we have citations like these all the time now! Sure the cop is in the wrong one time and people are out flipping cars and doing whatever to show how upset they are with the system. But when that cop is killed in the wrong no one even blinks. Why is that okay? Now let's move on the the Stanford rape case. Why is he okay to do that but when someone who's not an athlete does it they get at least 2-3 years? What part of that seems fair to anyone? When someone states an opinion that differs from yours, it is intolerant or racist. But when you state yours it's perfectly okay. We need to stop jumping to everything being racist, and intolerant and instead welcome people's ideas. Because by the age of 12 or 13, if you can't tell what's racist and what's not then we have a problem. Not everything that is said that involves color is racist and not everything that is said about ideas that aren't yours is intolerant.

What we as a nation have to do is accept others opinions, something that may be hard for a lot of us. We don't always have to be right in everyone's eyes. I can guarantee everyone that if you are talking to a left wing when you're a right wing your stand points will not be tolerated and you will be told to "shut up" or that you're wrong and vise versa. We need to go back to that point in our history where not everything was black and white but it was grey. We need to get to a point again where not everything has to be perfect but everything can be sustainable. We will never meet everyone's eyes but for something you feel you're getting cheated out of, someone else is feeling the same way about another issue.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
