So let me begin by identifying the term “feminism”. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. This is a movement to gain equality for women everywhere. Everybody should be a feminist, I mean who does not want equal rights?

Feminism is needed everywhere, however, some places more than others. I've seen many modern day feminists attempt to join this movement. This is great but what they've failed to do is acknowledge where feminism is needed most, middle eastern countries. Many individuals are “trying to gain equality for women” by attempting things such changing a school dress code, while as we speak women are being put to death due to honor killings. An honor killing or shame killing is the homicide of a member of a family by other members, due to the perpetrators' belief that the victim has brought shame or dishonor upon the family, or has violated the principles of a community or a religion, usually for reasons such as refusing to enter an arranged marriage, being in a relationship that is disapproved by their family, having sex outside marriage, becoming the victim of rape, dressing in ways which are deemed inappropriate, engaging in non-heterosexual relations or renouncing a faith.

While any movement towards women's rights is important, a dress code is of minor importance during times like these. Women in the Middle East live their lives in fear every day for simply being women and are considered inferior to men and individuals in western countries continue to speak of the ways they are oppressed. I have failed to see these same people speak of the areas this movement is needed most. I have failed to see these people try to make any movement towards women's rights in middle eastern countries simply because they are oblivious. We as people need to take the time and effort being put into making minor feminist movements and use this time and effort in areas where it is currently needed most. These areas include the Middle East. Ending this violence can start by simply spreading awareness of this inequality, and horrific events going on in these countries. In hopes of helping these people move closer to being freed from these unequal ways one step at a time.
