Abortion is one of the most prominent and controversial unsolved issues presently found in America. In addition, a new form of feminism is on the rise and has been for at least a year or two now. Generally speaking (not always, but generally), if you meet a modern-day feminist, they likely will not hesitate to tell you that they are also pro-choice, meaning that they support a woman's right to choose abortion.
Now, let me explain to you the fallacy in this logic.
Feminism is, by definition from Merriam-Webster, "the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes." Let me just reiterate- EQUALITY of the sexes. This means that a feminist believes that men and women should have equal rights.
I will agree that men and women in America today do not have equal rights.
Now, let me tell you why.
Women have an incredibly, astoundingly significant right that men do NOT have: the right to abort their children. We can argue all day about whether or not abortion should be legal and never reach a conclusion, because, as I have stated in previous articles, if you are pro-choice, you and I will probably never agree on what constitutes life. I believe that conception constitutes life. If you are pro-choice, you probably do not share that belief, and while I do not agree with you in the slightest, I somewhat understand. If you are pro-choice and you do believe that conception constitutes life, then you simply believe that murder is okay, and that is something I cannot and will not ever understand. However, regardless of your argument on what constitutes life, the issue still stands that women have the right to abort an unborn child, and men are told that they have no say in it.
That is not equal.
Therefore, if you believe that women should have the choice to end their unborn child's life, then you should also believe that men have the right to force the woman they impregnated to abort the child or to carry it to term. That is equality. That is TRUE pro-choice feminism. And before you come at me with the "my body, my choice" slogan that pro-choice "feminists" love to scream, let me clarify that if you are a woman and you chose to have consensual sex with a man, then you already made your choice with your body, just as the man made his own choice with his body. Now, this is an innocent child's body that we are making choices for. If one becomes pregnant by consensual sex, then both the bodies of the partners are responsible for creating another human being. That is as much the child of the man as it is of the woman. And if you believe that a woman should have the choice to end or continue that tiny life, then a man should too. Until that option is in place for men, or abortion is made illegal entirely (at least in the case of consensual sex), men and women will not be equal.
If you believe that only women should have the right to choose, then you are not a feminist. You do not support equality. You are a female supremacist. End of story.
Just some food for thought.
