The most romantic holiday of the year is right around the corner. Some of you may have that special someone and have all sorts of romantic plans for the day. That’s great and all, but what about the rest of us? What’s a girl to do when she doesn’t have that special someone? Call up your squad and don’t be alone this year for Valentine’s Day! From one forever alone girl to another, here’s a list of 14 ways to still manage to have fun on Valentine’s day without needing a man.
- First off, don't be angsty!
Some people will go on a rampage about how terrible the holiday is because they don’t have a special someone. That is not the point of the holiday! A valentine can be anyone! Your mom, your best friend, your dog, or whoever else you strongly care about. Please avoid posting on social media about how much you dislike the day, everyone knows what it’s like to be alone, but you cannot let that negatively affect you. - Netflix and Chill
Order a large pepperoni pizza with a cheese-stuffed crust and show some love to your Netflix account. No one will shame you or your friends for eating too much pizza or watching too many sappy romantic comedies. Or instead of rom-coms, switch it up and watch movies that don’t focus on a love story. - Make an awesome dinner
Today’s the day to finally try out of those recipes you found on Pinterest a couple months back. Print the recipe out and purchase all the ingredients. Attempt to make a gourmet dinner for yourself, or ask your friends to pitch in. You may find out that your best friend Emily actually knows what the different knives in your kitchen are actually used for! - Treat yourself
Instead of spending so much money on another person, spend it on yourself. Treat yourself to the day at the spa. Get a full body massage. Or pay for a pedicure and manicure. Buy a Valentine’s Day present for yourself - like the cute Coach purse that has been in your shopping cart for weeks. Love yourself. - Go to the movies
Movie theaters seem to be always open - bless their souls! Go to an early movie - beat the romantic crowds and matinees are always a few dollars cheaper! See an action movie or a comedy to help get your mind off of the day of romance.
- Have a mini anti-Valentine's party
Invite a few friends over for a non-holiday-affiliated party. Make a playlist, put out chips and salsa, and just hang out with the girls who have had your back through everything. Break out your old Just Dance game and have some fun! - Do an activity you love
Spend the day doing something you love. Go on an adventure to a local state park or tourist site. Hit the gym for a few hours and work on that bikini body. You could also stay in your fuzzy pajamas all day, curled up in bed, and your nose in a book. Simply spend the day doing whatever you want, when you want, and with whoever you want. - Speak up!
Today is the perfect day to be brave! If there’s been a cute guy who you have been crushing on for awhile, take the chance to tell him so. Send a simple text such as “I just want to say I really like you. Happy Valentine’s Day!” These sort of messages are expected on Valentine’s Day. It’s the perfect opportunity to tell someone you like them or to remind someone how much they mean to you. If you get the opposite response than what you wanted, ice cream will always be there for you. You were able to get your feelings out and now know where you stand with that person. You’ll be okay. - Hit up the singles parties!
Some local bars will hold events directed towards singles. You won’t have to worry about being surrounded by couples making out and being all lovey-dovey. Who knows, you may even meet a special someone and can bond over the holiday. Just do a simple search and you should be able to find some in your area. - Share your horrible dating experiences
Spend some time with your friends and share your past experiences over dinner. Everyone has experienced a bad date or two. - Do adult things… Like your taxes.
Just kidding. Maybe… You have the entire day to do whatever you want, so why not get ahead on some of those adult things you have been pushing aside? Besides, the earlier you get your taxes filed, the sooner you can get your refund check? And who doesn’t love receiving money in the mail? - Volunteer
Give some love to your community. Many organizations are constantly looking for volunteers to help out. They may even have certain activities going on for Valentine’s Day and would love to include you. I highly suggest helping out at an elderly home or an animal shelter - both places the residents would be overjoyed to spend the day with you. - 14 random acts of kindness
Take some time out of your day to create valentines to pass out to strangers. Or pay for the person behind you at Starbucks. Give a stranger a compliment. Go out of your way to help someone. Leave a large tip for your waiter or waitress. Hold the door open for the person behind you. Do the dishes for your roommates. Write a letter to a soldier overseas. Donate blood or your hair to charity. Call a family member you haven't spoken to for a while. Offer to babysit someone's kids or pets while they go out. Send a dessert to another table at a restaurant. Hold the elevator open for someone. Give up your seat on the bus and offer to stand instead.
- Buy all the discounted chocolate
Every single girl’s favorite day of the year is February 15th also known as the day when all the chocolate is at least 50 percent off. Stock up and don’t be embarrassed to eat more than you should.
Don't be bummed this year for Valentine's Day. Spend some quality time with friends or yourself and make sure to spoil yourself. You're perfect and deserve it. And buy some of that heavily discounted chocolate!
