Almost every girl fantasizes about going to college and finding a life-long best friend. During my first year of college, I was lucky enough to find my person.
Now I understand that most freshmen don't find the "roommate of their dreams," but let me just tell you what you missed out on.
She could deal with me at my absolute worst.
I remember when I would be upset at life and I knew I could always storm into her room, crawl into her super comfy bed, and let all my anger out. Vindictive, angry, crying, silent.... she saw it all. She saw me at my worst and knew exactly how to bring out my best.
She was just as crazy as I was.
Whether it was singing Taylor Swift at the top of our lungs, making crazy dance videos, obsessing over "Grey's Anatomy," recording music covers while driving, going to Cookout at 3 in the morning - she was always there (yeah I know what you're thinking, we were a real crazy bunch).
She was a lot like me.
I used to tell all of my old friends about our friendship. Those who would meet her would even agree that we were basically the same person. That's one of the main reasons we got along so well and for that, I am extremely grateful.
She was there for all of my college firsts.
She was the first person I talked to before I went to my 8 a.m. classes. She was the first person I ever lived with outside of my family. She was my first college night out. She was my first dining hall experience. She was my first true best friend. But above all, she was my first choice whenever I needed someone to go to.
She would have done anything for me.
Whatever I needed, she was there. If I wanted a milkshake at 3 in the morning, she was there; even in her cat pajamas. If I needed her to go crazy on our other roommates for me, she was there. If I needed someone who cared about me to tell me to do the right thing, she was there. Through it all, she was always there.
Wherever she may be, and wherever she will go, she will always be my best friend.
Like the saying says- all good things must come to an end. Regardless of her life going in a different direction than mine, she will always be my best friend. As the new college year starts, I will have a new set of roommates, and all that will be missing is her. I am so excited at what will become of her life, as well as mine. I always knew someday our lives with go separate ways, but I know that with whatever life throws at us, she will always be there for me and I for her.
So as a new set of freshman move into our old dorm, my hope for them is to find a friend as good as she is. I hope that they can make as many memories in that dorm as we have... if not more.
