You have all different kinds of friends. You have friends that are basically your clone, friends you have with some similarities with and friends that are the complete opposite of you. I've always noticed that many of my strongest friendships are with people very different from me. My best friend and I always have a great time because of our unique friendship. When your best friend is your complete opposite you both benefit.
They keep you open minded
How great is it that you can learn by hanging out with your best friend? I didn't know anything about basketball, how to buy a good pair of sneakers, or who the best rappers were before I got close to my best friend. My best friend now knows all about the best books to read and the band Sublime. I'm exposed to an array of different situations and opportunities because of my best friend.
They break you out of your shell
Like the saying goes, "Life begins at the end of your comfort zone," and with my best friend that's how a lot of our adventures begin. Hanging out with them is always a great time.
Things aren't a competition
You don't clash. You don't hold each other back and are each other's number one fan. Your friendship is built on support. Watching my BFF succeed is some of my happiest moments.
Your friendship is a breath of fresh air
Things aren't ever boring. When you do have things in common, it's so much more special. You get different perspectives on things. Chances are you both have a different group of friends. You can become exposed to new people and can get a break from what you're used too.
You balance each other out
I'm extremely excitable, she's extremely monotone. I'm a book nerd, she's athletic. I'm into having a bohemian fashion style, while she's into wearing Nike. We complement one other. We're like puzzle pieces, we just click together. Since you both are different, your best friend can call you out when you're being irrational because they are never bias.
Hearing "Wait, you guys are friends?!"
Yup, we are best friends. My bestie is my other half and she makes me a better person. We both share the same determination in life and respect each other. Although we do not have not much in common, I've never related or connected to someone so well.
I am forever grateful for our dynamic duo.
