You know that feeling you get when you're waiting for your food at a restaurant? You're anticipating the joy that your six-ounce sirloin will bring, but the wait is driving you insane.
That's pretty much where I'm at right now -- except I'm waiting on something a little different than a steak.
I'll spare you the details of my life story, but to put it simply, I'm smack-dab in the middle of a season of waiting.
Waiting for my steak, if you will.
And I'll be the first to tell you, that waiting is hard. Maybe you're waiting too -- to hear back about a job application, for the answering of a prayer, or maybe you're lingering between two phases of life. Whatever your case may be, you are probably completely aware of the difficulties that come with seasons of waiting. Your faith is tested and your strength is stretched and challenged in ways you didn't know possible -- but it's so important to remember a couple things during the waiting.
This won't last forever.
When your dreams are delayed or your waiting grows weary, it may feel as if there's no way out. You lose hope and may even doubt that God is faithful as He says He is. However, it's so crucial to remember that the Lord is perfect in his timing. It's so easy to obsess over our wants and needs so much that we lose sight of God's perfection. The pain of waiting is so incredibly rough. But the Lord promises to sustain us through it all.
Waiting makes you stronger.
And wiser, more equipped and more ready for battle. In the midst of the waiting, God isn't just chilling up in the sky watching the whole thing go down. He's constantly moving and preparing you for later challenges and trials. He's training and readying you for things we can't even begin to fathom.
Be expectant.
God calls us to wait expectantly. It's incredibly easy to stress relentlessly over the possibility of something not working out in our favor. But may we never forget His promises to take care of us. Whether we get the dream job or not, He promises that His plans will prosper us and not harm us. So wait expectantly and rejoice in the Lord's promise to sustain us.
