As young women get older, we start to think about our lives from different aspects than we once did. We no longer look forward to staying out until three in the morning, instead we look forward to waking up early and making the most of our days. Long-gone are the days of meeting up with our girlfriends at the drop of hat, now we quite literally have to schedule and reschedule multiple times before finally settling on the perfect time for a girls night. And marriage becomes a constant topic, whether you’re married, single, or engaged.
We live in a time where women are focusing more on careers and themselves than their mothers and grandmothers did. A time where women are waiting years to have children and even longer to get married. No matter what age, or when, or if you decide to get married, when you give a girl a husband, you give her soul a mate, a home, a place of solitude and spark.
When you give a girl a husband, you give her a partner. Someone to go through life with. A team mate. Someone to encourage her in the hardest times when she can’t encourage herself. Someone who will always have her back, even when she messes up. Someone to support her when it seems like everyone else is letting her down. Someone to push her and someone to love her.
When you give a girl a husband, you give her a caretaker. A man who will go to the grocery store and buy tampons, along with Ferrero Rocher and a bottle of Reisling. Someone who will let her sulk around the house for no other reason than she’s “not feeling it, today”. Someone who will do the dishes, try to do the laundry, and make the bed. Someone who accepts that she is not the typical “housewife” because she hates doing manual labor.
When you give a girl a husband, you give her a voice of reason. When she can’t think straight, they are there to provide clarity. When she's had a rough week, he tells you to go out with the girls and have fun. When things make her angry and she wants to yell and scream, he talks her down off the ledge and reminds her of what really matters. Someone who provides logic in her illogical world.
When you give a girl a husband you give her a travel companion. Whether it’s down the street to a new restaurant, or a six hour car ride, or a plane flight away, he is always up for the adventure. He is excited to try anything and everything new; or he is willing to go to the same place you went last week, and the week before. He listens to her crazy vacation ideas even if they never go. He scrolls though Yelp and Instagram Places with her, searching for the perfect Brunch spot to try. Every now and then he will even let you sneak food off his plate.
When you give a girl a husband, you give her stability. And not the kind of stability that is not mutually beneficial. She knows she will never be alone. She knows that he will protect her in any situation. She never feels vulnerable, helpless, isolated, or unloved. She knows that she is his number one priority and he is hers. She absorbs the confidence that he floods into her and she radiates it back to him. She knows that he will grow with her because he vowed to, even in the hard times
When you give a girl a husband, you give her a best friend. Not like the “best friend” she had in High School who she never talks to anymore, but a true, deep, honest best friend. Someone who will meet her for drinks after work and not flake. Someone who she can watch Minion’s with and not feel judged. Someone who she can tell her deepest, darkest secrets to and know they won’t tell anyone.
Someone who she will always have sleep overs with, even if they both fall asleep by 9PM. Someone who will go get Fro-Yo with her, last minute. Someone who she will miss when they are gone, if only for a couple of hours. Someone who she has inside jokes with. Someone who knows her inside and out and loves every bit of her (even the crazy parts). Some who respects her, her mind, her body, and her soul.
When you give a girl a husband, you don’t give her a superior authoritative figure, but an equal, a team mate. Someone who wants to better themselves for her, for their team. Someone who wants her to better herself. Who encourages her and encourages their family together. A leader, a helper. When you give a girl a husband you give her love. Real love. Unconditional love.
