As we all know, prom season is among us, and with prom comes along the creative, interesting, yet sometimes controversial promposals. Essentially, promposals are when high school students orchestrate (a creative way) to ask their potential date to go to prom with them. Now the idea is very cute and fun but when does a harmless question go too far?
I Prefer Dark Meat
To some this might not be that offensive, but others had a lot to say when this promposal recently went viral on social media. I defiantly see what he was going for and how he thought it would be cute, but I also see how it is looked at as offensive. As an African American, and just a woman in general, being referred to as meat is not appealing, and the KFC hats do not really help. It seems like it could be an insider between the two and that they have a sense of humor. Personally, I do not know how I would have received it but I am very curious how she reacted.
Before Trump Deports You
When you think it cannot get any worse... it does. Again, the relationship between the two is most likely one where they can take jokes, but this promposal has been seen as highly offensive to some. It is quite self-explanatory why it is disrespectful but we will leave it at that.
You're Under Arrest
This promposal took some planning but would scare most people half to death. The teenager in the bottom right picture asked a real police officer to pretend to arrest her boyfriend and escort him to a cop car. Soo many things were probably going through his head at this moment for he was getting arrested for no reason. Nonetheless, right before he gets into the car, his date pops out with a sign, asking "to cuff" him at prom. Some might argue that this is the greatest prank of all time with the best revelation but others have insisted that this one went a little too far. Some people feel that with all of the situations dealing with unarmed black men and police officers should have been enough of a reason for the girl not to do that particular promposal. Additionally, a blogger by the name of Cat Pajamas goes as far as saying parents should teach their children about racial insensitivity. Others feel that it was not that serious and anyone from any race would be scared and maybe furious. I feel that it is very ruthless and unfortunate that unarmed black men are being killed by police, but at the same time, I would never compare that to this. I think is a unique prank and I do not feel like she had any ill intentions when conducting it.
Prom is all about memories, looking fly, and having the time of your life with friends. If you do plan on making a promposal make sure it is creative but not ignorant. You will save yourself some backlash.
