"And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath." Mark 2:27 ESV
Your soul is weary. You have been worried about way too many things. You have had a lot on your plate, and you finally have free time. You wonder whether you should get a head start on the week now that you have free time or actually rest. But even when you think about rest, you can't really understand that concept. You have forgotten how to.
What you need, dear friend, is a Sabbath.
You need to leave your phone at home and go away in nature. Stare at the sea. Hike a mountain. Spend quiet alone time. But don't be with your overbearing thoughts. Be with God. Tell him how weary your soul is. Lift up your complaints to Him. Cry if you need to. Learn to be yourself from a place of rest.
After your Sabbath, you'll find that you want every day to be a Sabbath. You'll begin to crave doing everything from a place of rest. Why not? Weren't we made to rest? Isn't His yoke easy and His burden light?
When you don't take a Sabbath, you are telling God: "No, thanks. I'll be my own god right now." It is an act of trust. Everything you have has been given. Everything you have can be taken away.
Take a Sabbath. Find rest for your soul. There is too much hate, fighting, anxiety and weariness in this world. What each of us needs is God. He can take care of us better than we can take care of ourselves.
"For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. How long will all of you attack a man to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence? They only plan to thrust him down from his high position. They take pleasure in falsehood. They bless with their mouths, but inwardly they curse. Selah. For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God." Psalm 62:1-7 ESV
