When God Gave Me A Little Brother

When God gave me you, I felt the world change beneath my feet. You stole my heart the moment you held my hand. I looked at you with teary eyes and welcomed you into my life. Every day I think about my life before you and how different it was—how different it would be if you never came around. Sometimes I wonder what the future will be like; yours is so important to me. God put me on this earth to watch over you. I now understand why I am here. I am here to teach you, to love you, to push you.

One day you will be something great and someone worth knowing. Someday you will be faith-filled and glorious in every way. I know you, and I love you. You have shown me kindness, love and compassion since that very first day we met. When God gave me you, he gave me a mix of something wonderfully made. You are my best friend today and every day. When God gave me you, he gave me everything needed to find happiness. From the moment I laid eyes on you, I knew I was your keeper. Thank you for allowing me that job.

As I continue to watch you grow, I realize you will not always need me. Just know that I will never leave; I will stand on the sidelines. Being your keeper means always looking out for you, always holding you up and never giving up on you. Being someone's keeper is a big job—a job I never asked for—but a job I couldn't be more thankful to have received. Usually, jobs seem tiring. Although keeping up with you can be tiring, watching you grow is worth it. Your attitude is the replica of myself along with your precious sense of sarcasm. We have spent countless times playing along with the people who believe you are my very own because we are just that alike.

When God gave me you, he made me over—just better. I was given the chance to love something more than I ever thought I could. I was given the opportunity to learn from my mistakes and teach you better.

My brother, I am your keeper.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
