Inside of everyone there is a deeper meaning to what they do. My best friend is going to be a Nuclear Engineer. I will be an English teacher. Those two dont sound like they have anything in common, right? Wrong. We both chose those paths because of one reason: We want to change lives.
I once read somewhere that a professor told his class, "You all have a little bit of 'wanting to save the world' in you. That's why you're in college." I agree with that whole-heartedly. Everywhere you turn you will see someone studying, rushing to a test, and asking deeper questions in class. It's all in preparation for a bigger picture.
Why do we do all of this? Why do we pile up never ending debt, pull all-nighters, and endure all of this stress? It's because one day we want to make a difference in someone's life. Even if we just save one person, encourage that person who needed it the most... we've done our job.
As a kid I remember a teacher of mine telling me, "You can't change a world full of people, but you can change one and then they can influence a few more." I have carried this with me my entire life. Its one of the reasons I am choosing to be a teacher. It's a reason that I am a writer. It's a reason that I am a friend to those who could use a little bit of support every now and then.
So as you're going through your daily routine go ahead and add in the question, "Whats my 'Save the World?'". Why are you here and who are you doing it for? Take a deep breath in, breathe out, decide, and then go inspire. Go change the world.
