If you've ever been to a college football game, you are familiar with the energy and spirit of the events. People tailgating, campus coming alive, pre and post game parties — the entire atmosphere on campus is invigorating. That said, there are a few different types of people who watch the games. As someone who takes her college football very seriously, I have to tone down my intensity a bit sometimes. Here's what people really mean when they are talking to you at the game.
1. That drive was ugly.
I am dying inside. I really hate losing, but no one likes a sore loser, so I'll just offer a vague comment of disappointment. Why isn't our team playing better? Are you seeing how they're playing? Are you freaking out, too? I'm freaking out.
2. I don't really want to talk right now.
Actually, I mean what I said, but just know, if you touch me to get my attention, you may lose those fingers. Please do not bother me, I cleared out my evening to watch this game, and I plan to do just that. Let me sit in my crazed state and watch the game.
3. Did our offense forget to show up?
We just blew that drive. Our team should be winning. Why were we not able to convert for a new set of downs? I know I couldn't do any better, but we should be scoring. I want to see us score.4. This is absolutely awful! Why are — Oh wait! Yes! GO!
Wow. Am I always prone to such strong mood swings? I feel like such a moron for just complaining. Look how great things are going now. Maybe I should try to keep quiet.5. I am really intense about the game. Sorry.
I am not actually sorry, but I recognize that I am obnoxious. Please don't hate me now. I like having you around, so I hope you can accept my game-watching habits.
6. Yes! Go! GO!
That was a nice play. I think I elbowed the guy next to me when I was cheering. I hope he's OK. Good play!
7. I am so glad I am here. I love this game.
Game days are the best. I am so happy to be at this school. The game is going well. Life is good.
