What Does Writing Mean to You?

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, writing is "the way that you use written words to express your ideas or opinions." However, we as individuals write for many reasons. More often than not, people explain writing as a way to express our inner thoughts and creative ideas. Through writing, a person is able to expand their mind and spark their imagination. There are no limits to what you can write about. The words you put on paper are your unique stories, articles, journal entries, poems; wherever your creativity takes you.

Writing can also be a form of revelation. The process of writing provides a path of thinking and expanding on ideas in your mind. At the end of this path is a feeling of clarity, having a complete understanding of an idea. When you have a problem in your life and just cannot get a grasp on how to handle the situation, write down your thoughts. When writing your problems, in the end, you may find the answer. Think of your pen and paper as an extension of your mind. You are simply writing down what your mind says. A person who has difficulty in having a clear thought process can easily overcome this issue through writing.

If I am ever feeling that I have difficulty in my life, I find that writing is there for me. Think of a journal as a person who will talk to you about anything. You are taking yourself and your mind out of reality and narrowing in on your own thoughts. A journal will not judge you on what you have to say or what problems you are facing. A journal will always be there to listen. Through writing, you are able to find a clear path that will lead you to a better understanding of yourself.

Most send texts, emails or phone calls to communicate with people, but seldom do people send handwritten letters. Although technology may seem as the fastest form of communication, it is not always the most personable. When someone receives a handwritten note, it feels more personable, as if you are reaching out to them through the paper. Go ahead and send someone you care about a note on pen and paper.

So think about it. What does writing mean to you?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
