Its the morning after the election. Hillary Clinton has just won. Part of you is filled to the brim with uncontrollable relief over the fact that Trump, the arrogant, disrespectful, ass hole will not be president and the protests will subside; however, the other half of you dreads what is to come. You have to tell your daughter who her new president is because her bed time was hours before the decision had been made.
Since she was little, you told her:
Always be honest.
Respect your friends, but more importantly yourself.
Stand by your beliefs not the beliefs of others, unless they align with your own.
Don’t depend on a man because baby, you are strong.
And lastly, you will do great things.
Stay humble, and honest while you climb your way to the top.
But now… the most powerful woman in the country emulates every characteristic you taught her not to instill within herself. Shes going to be confused and you know that. Suddenly you doubt your country. They just elected a woman who stayed with a man after our nation knew he had an affair. Someone who openly proclaimed her anti LGBTQ beliefs about 16 years before she claimed she had “always” supported them. Someone who was calmly being addressed by a black male about concerns he had, only to tell him that thats why she only talks to white people about issues. Someone who assisted in covering up the sexual assault charges against her husband. And defended Thomas Alfred Taylor and why his sentence was so short for his alleged rape. But finally someone who put herself above everyone else in this country. Carelessly leaking classified information through emails.
Finally, after exploring every option, you sit her down at the breakfast table. “Honey,” you say “Today America made a big mistake. Everyone had a really hard decision, because both people have done bad things. But Hillary Clinton is our new president. No matter what you hear in school, or see on the TV, forget it. Things for girls are going to be hard for a while, and the boys aren’t really going to think we are strong, but thats not fair. So go to school. Get good grades. Keep being kind, and honest. Because one day all of the little girls can show all of the boys that we are so much stronger, and braver, then they ever thought we could be.”

So women everywhere I need you to listen. Forget about Trump and Hillary. Put down the picket signs, get off the streets, and stop the hate. Whats done is done. The next four years will surely put our country to the test; however, when election time rolls around, we better make sure there is one bad ass woman representing us. Someone we ALL will be proud of, and excited to tell our daughters about. Put the past behind us and focus on tomorrow.
I do not stand with Hillary. I stand with us, the women.
