I Am A Woman And There Is No War Against Me

What rights are you lacking?

I Am A Woman And There Is No War Against Me

Following an article I recently wrote regarding the wage gap, I’ve received a lot of criticism regarding how I perpetrate the war on women.

Excuse me while I choke on my water.

Despite what every feminist wants to believe, there is not a war on women in the United States.

Take me to Saudia Arabia where women can’t drive past 8 and only received the right to vote in 2015; that is a war on women.

Take me to Egypt or countries in Africa where women, by the thousands, are subjected to Female Genital Mutilation, that is a war on women.

In fact, take me to places like Yemen, Pakistan and Afghanistan where women are not only married off at horribly young ages, but are subject to domestic abuse that is not punished as it should be.

This so called “war on women” in the United States is laughable. I am not lacking ONE right that my male counterpart does not have.

I have access to birth control -- that does not mean I can afford it, and that certainly does not mean someone else should pay for me. However, the opportunity to obtain it is there.

I can have an abortion -- while some states do have more restrictions than others the option is still available to me, just as it is everyone else.

I can run for any office I choose -- does that mean that I, along with thousands of others, are going to use the opportunity we have to do so? No, but that doesn’t mean the option isn’t there.

In reality, a lot of people have complained that the war on women lies in healthcare and abortion. I am not going to get into my feelings on either, as I’ve already written about the latter of the two, but let me get this straight:

You want the right to have an abortion -- you got it. Yes, there may be restrictions such as how late you can terminate your pregnancy or whether or not you have to attend counseling, but you’re not forbidden to get the abortion. Honestly, it’s a big deal to begin with; is counseling all that bad?

You demand that taxpayers subsidize Planned Parenthood and pay for healthcare? Sounds to me like that is a war on the taxpayers, being forced to pay for services they don’t want/need/agree with.

I mean, based on these standards of a war on a gender, we should be paying reparations to all the men that were drafted during the 20th century to wars that took the lives of thousands. Where is their war on men? They were forced to be shipped off to foreign land and lay their life down, regardless of whether they wanted to or not; that sounds pretty controlling to me.

Where is the "war on gun owners" who are consistently having their Constitutional rights infringed upon?

Where is the war on so many sects?

You are not oppressed, certainly not in America. Donald Trump has not oppressed you (maybe you should put your pink hat away now). You are equal in the eye of the law. You have the exact same Constitutional rights that any man does.

Say it with me now: “I have equal rights. I am granted the same rights as any man under our Constitution. Not having someone pay for your healthcare is not an infringement upon your rights. I am a woman and there is no war against me.”

Doesn’t that feel nice?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
