The megabus is an interesting medium of transportation consisting mostly of poor college kids traveling excess hours to get to a city to see their significant other, sibling or friend. Besides these exceptions the rest of the passengers on the megabus are wild cards. Here are a few you might encounter:
1) On the bus you might encounter two kinds of couples 1) Respectful old couples, foreigners who usually do not speak English, they might be a little confused 2) The PDA couple with a purple zebra print blanket AND matching horizontal stripes who change cuddling positions every 5 minutes because ITS UNCOMFORTABLE FOR EVERYONE TO HAVE CUDDLING ON THE BUS.
3) Another passenger might be the also broke aspiring artist: He sits at the specially reserved table seat that costs a little bit extra. iPad propped up and stylist in hand, this bus goer quietly makes little "yes!" Victory sounds as if he's about to have is big break as soon as he gets off the bus.
4) The guy with a slight pony tail, aka The guy who "didn't want to be awkward" but asked to sit together even though there were single seats available. After turning down the offer politely he sits behind you. But that tapping noise and the music that's just a little too loud from the headphones...is it him executing revenge? Or is the bus making the noises? Either way the pony tail guy is out for revenge.
5) The role model. This lady is a shining example of how to still achieve a single seat after three stops of new passengers. I owe my single seat experience to her. She brings a duffle bag with her that's small enough to put on the seat surrounded by a few other misallenous bags. It gives the appearance of "if you decide to pick this seat you will be sharing it with these bags", even if a newcomer could get past the mountains of bags she wears a white hat that covers most of her face emblazoned with jewels the word truth. Truth. You don't want to mess with the truth. Her gaze is also something to aspire for. When newcomers come on the bus she does not make eye contact, her headphones in and stares directly into the window. Later I overheard her talking to the bus driver about her destination, Atlantic city. She plans to return not on the mega bus but in a private jet.
Megabus is a worldly experience, and you too can meet your own motley crew of fellow passengers for the low price of $1 (plus a reservation fee so a not so low $50).
