Doodle, Draw, Or Color
Make your own color, or take a few minutes to sketch whatever/whomever you are looking at. It could help calm your mind, and there is something about focusing on something just for the sake of doing it.
Eat Food with a Friend, Lover, Partner, Whoever.
Share plates with each other so you get to eat more things. You might find yourself talking about the flavors, textures, and desirability of the food. I swear that if we could all just focus on the simple details of life, everything would seem okay. Earlier this week I shared a deep-fried cauliflower appetizer that was smothered in chipotle sauce with white grapes, a falafel burger and a plate of cafeteria styled tater tots with two friends. The food inspired us to talk about elementary school memories and the strange combination of flavors we were experiencing.
Pick a Tiny Area of Your World & Organize it Lovingly
Clean under books and knickknacks and hang a picture. Spray paint shelving units or do some kind of Martha Stewart redesign where you hang wallpaper within the shelves. It always looks so good in magazines; it transforms any space.
Breathe Deeply and Loudly a few times
In Yoga, they call it the “Lion’s Breath.” You can do this while walking or opening a door, or anytime you feel overwhelmed. There are weeks when I do it several times a day.
Listen to Music Loud
Dance a little or a lot. Shake your body to the beat and really feel it. It’s a very effective transportation out of your head.
And, in my experience, that is what this is all about.
Ask yourself what you can possibly do to take a moment outside of your own skull. There’s so much to realize.
