Halloween is just around the corner, and I’m sure we are all frantically looking around for any costume that will look cute while also keeping us warm on these colder fall nights. As a fellow broke college students, I understand what it’s like to have to make a costume out of what you have because some Halloween stores are just way too expensive. That is why I have chosen to share a few Halloween costumes that you can quickly throw together without spending a crap ton of money.

1. Grease Lightning!

For boys, all you gotta do is whip out those skinny jeans you pretend you don’t have, a plain white shirt, and a classic black leather jacket. Slick back your hair and you’re instantly the heart throbs every girl was dying to have back in the 50’s. For the ladies, find your tightest black yoga pants paired with a black tank top or a black body suit. Make your make-up pop with blood red lips and maybe find a pink jacket from the local thrift shop. Being a Pink Lady is always a badass choice that keeps you warm as well.

2. Animal Mania

Choosing to dress as your favorite animal is a good choice for those who just can’t seem to think of anything else. Wear all black then buy whatever ears and tail from the dollar tree that you desire. Use make-up or face paint to make your puuurrfect animal choice stand out and BAM! Looking cute with minimal effort and money spent.

3. Halloween Classics

Sure you may be called basic for showing up as a zombie, vampire, or witch, but they’re classics for a reason! For a vampire, break out all the black clothing you have along with some fake blood from the dollar store and you’re golden. Don’t forget the fake fangs! Zombies are dead, so just use some old clothes, maybe rip them a bit and add some dirt. Once you’re clothes look dead as you should be, all you need is some face paint or make-up to finish the look. A witch outfit is simple. Choose a cute black dress and top it off with a pointy hat.

4. Heaven vs. Hell

Perhaps a more angelic approach is what you’re looking for. Find yourself a cute white top along with white shorts or pants, whichever you prefer, then all that’s left is to either make your own halo or purchase one for cheap. Not everyone is an angel though; some are just a little more devious. Round up all the red you can find to construct a simply devilish outfit! Add horns and you’re a gorgeous girl from down under.

5. Sports Fanatic

When in doubt, sport it out! There’s a good chance that you or someone you know has some sort of sports jersey in their closet which works as an instant halloween costume. Accompany the jersey with spandex and tennis shoes along with eye black under your eyes to create the hottest jock at the whole party.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
