For many of you who watched the 2015 GOP debate on Fox News, you're probably thinking, "Man that made me feel some type of way," but not the good way. No, it probably made you react like this:
Because, you know, no one had any idea what Donald Trump was talking about half the time. Donald has been on everyone's radar for the last couple weeks. On June 17, he launched his presidential campaign. At the same time, he gave all media outlets the abundance of what they would need to cover for the next several weeks and months.
Many believe Trump says what he does just to get attention and gain in the polls. But guess what?! He's still ahead in the Republican primary polls! (Refer to Jon Stewart above).
His domestic policies are a grab bag of issues just to bring voters to his side. Over the last 10 years he has flip-flopped on many issues such as Common Core, abortion, and same-sex marriage. During the debate, he was asked by Megyn Kelly when he actually became a Republican due to his many flip-flops. His response was:
"I've evolved on many issues over the years--and you know who else has? It's Ronald Reagan -- [he] evolved on many issues."
Instead of giving an answer about himself, he decided to bring a former president into the mix. Many are unsure whether he actually holds these beliefs or if he is just trying to get voters.
Some of these "out there" beliefs include his stance on immigration, same-sex marriage, abortion, climate change, and calling women names, believe it or not.
In 2014, Trump tweeted about climate change calling it a hoax. He even went as far as saying it was something created by the Chinese! That makes sense, right?
As for abortion he clearly states that he is pro-life and that abortions should be banned. However in "The America We Deserve," a book written by Trump, he proclaimed that he is pro-choice. In the arena of gay marriage he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman. He officially stated in 2013 that, "It's not my thing," and that he was officially against it. However, he believes that the Supreme Court ruling is law. Flip-flopping on major social issues, got to love it right?
On immigration, Trump strongly argues that Mexico is sending over criminals on purpose. He continues to say that their people make up the majority of unauthorized and illegal immigrants, which is just wrong. He has come out saying "we should build a giant wall" and went on to say, “I’d build it. I’d build it very nicely. I’m very good at building things."
During the debate, one of the first questions asked of Donald was a follow-up to his statement that women are "fat pigs, slobs, and dirty animals." On his Twitter account he has made several rude comments about women's looks. On his "show," if you can call it one, "The Apprentice," he was quoted telling a female contestant that he would like to see her on her knees. His response to this question was, "Megyn, if you don't like it, I'm sorry. I’ve been very nice to you, although I could probably maybe not be..." He then went on to say, "It's fun, it's kidding, we have a good time." Doesn't seem like a good time to me. A breakdown of offensive comments on women can be found here.
Donald Trump's actions have put him in the spotlight, the limelight, and sometimes in the crosshairs of the Republican party. Earlier this summer, Tom Tancredo had to tell Trump to tone it down. The things Trump says are often praised and put him at the top of the polls. This is because people believe he is saying what everyone is thinking. The problem is, the ideas he has are dangerous and Republicans believe he may cost them the presidential race. After all, he wasn't even diplomatic enough to pledge that he wouldn't run against his fellow Republicans if he didn't get their nomination. Try and be a team player there, Donald.
