Have you ever seen something that made your whole view on something turn upside down?

That is what What The Health did to me. I thought I had a strong understanding about health and what certain foods did for body, but this documentary showed me even more than I could have imagined. This documentary asked questions that most people have never even thought of and dove into necessary topics.

Kip Andersen was the interviewer and did research on different organizations to find out secrets and reasons for what they do. Some of the information stated throughout this documentary lacked backing, but overall it was an accurate and informative show.

One of the organizations he looked into was the American Cancer Society. This organization promotes a shopping list that people should shop from, but some of the foods on the list increase chances to get cancer. Processed meats, such as sliced meats or hotdogs aid in the chances to get cancer. When Kip Andersen asked the American Cancer Society would not answer any of his questions when he reached out to them. Why would an organization looking to cure cancer promote foods that increase your chances?

Kip Andersen looked in other organizations such as Susan G. Komen breast cancer organization, American Diabetes Association and a few others, but when Andersen reached out the organizations would not talk to him. He found info that goes against what the organization tries to prevent.

Some of the false information found in this documentary is a statement about one egg equaling five cigarettes due to carcinogens. This is inaccurate because the eggs have not been directly associated with increased chances of cancer and consuming one egg is not the same as inhaling five cigarettes. There are also options of different types of eggs because of the ways the chickens are raised.

A true statement is that processed meats lead to diabetes, not sugar. Fatty foods clog up your arteries which makes it harder for your body to break down sugary foods and turn them into glucose. Once you acquire diabetes, the more sugar you eat, the worse it gets because of the fatty foods you have eaten. Sugar leads to an increased chance in heart disease, but consumer sugar does not lead to diabetes.

People need to watch documentaries with a bit of a defense up because they are usually a one sided argument. Kip Andersen is trying to persuade people to be vegan and shows the benefits of a vegan lifestyle, so he shows the benefits. This is a strong persuasion tactic as well as showing the negatives about processed meats and animals based products.

I would recommend watching What the Health and learning about the advantages and disadvantages of certain foods. Then take that information and decide how you want it to impact your life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
