What SU Students Will Miss over Winter Break

Even though we're excited to go home, we're still going to miss it here too.

With finals beginning this week, every student at Syracuse University is extremely focused on effectively managing their time to study for upcoming exams, submit any written assignments, to eat and to literally breathe (I wish I was being dramatic when writing this). We are all so overwhelmed with our school work, as well as the excitement to return home and soak in the fact that we have no homework for an entire month, that we forget how much we're actually going to miss SU while we're not here. Here's a list of just some things that we'll miss during winter break.

1. The snow.

OK, so not everybody is a fan of snow... but that doesn't mean that our notorious weather conditions go completely unappreciated! It may take an extra hour to walk to class and even more of an effort to maintain your balance, but going to school in one of the snowiest cities in the U.S. is really fun. Who doesn't have fun making snow angels after walking home from a long night at Club Bird (and yes, that is how we refer to our library) or watching their friends spastically attempt to walk in the snow? As much as we complain about the snow, we secretly enjoy it much more than we say we do.

2. As lame as it is to say, we're going to miss classes.

I know, I know... everybody always voices their hatred for going to class. It's not learning that sucks, but let's just say that waking up at 7 AM and then proceeding your day by listening to monotone lectures while you use all of your willpower to stay awake is not exactly considered to be fun. However, break can get a little boring after awhile, especially if you don't have a job. Going to class allows us to make and see our friends and keeps us preoccupied- all while learning! Everybody at home after 2 weeks of constant sleeping and eating, trying to find something else to do:

3. The Carrier Dome.

The Dome is every SU student's pride and joy. Even though watching sports games on TV or in other stadiums can still be a ton of fun, nothing compares to being in your own stadium where you know that nearly everybody in there bleeds just as much orange as you do.

4. All of our friends.

Since our campus is not too large, it's normal to see people you know on a daily basis. Going a week without seeing your friends here is difficult so a month is even harder. This is how I will most likely be saying bye to all of my friends this week:

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
