You walk in on the first day of class and scan the room for someone that can be your potential best friend for the semester. You’ll search for someone who you will get lunch after class with and eventually you’ll exchange Snapchats and phone numbers. But just like the seasons change, the semester will come and go and so will the friendship that you formed because you don’t have any more classes together and you drift apart.
But on rare occasions, you make a friend who you actually have an interest in spending time with outside of class and the occasional lunch break. The friend who actually asks what you plan to do with your extra time, and you both decide that you have no life but want to do absolutely nothing, together. Now it's one year later and you see that you spend every boring moment of your life with that person who you met on the first day of school. It's always crazy to look back on those friendships and wonder how they started because you become so close to that person that it's almost crazy to think about where it all began.
Looking back on my freshman year of college I realized that I made several semester-long friendships, but more importantly I now have a best friend that would be absolutely impossible to let go of. I couldn’t tell you what happened that made us become so close but I wouldn’t trade our friendship for anything. Normally I would get tired of spending every single day with someone, but we are together every single day and as I get older, I realize how important a friendship like ours is. She’s the first person I go to for anything and points out all the weird things I do but doesn’t want me to change. People always ask us how we aren’t sick of each other because we literally don’t leave each other's side, but I think college allows you to make friends that are actually worth all your time because you finally meet people with the same interests as you.
So cheers to us, a friendship like you only see in TV shows and movies and a friendship I never thought I would be able to find. She is my go-to and I am not joking when I say that we finish each other’s sandwiches and sentences. She is my person and I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who can handle being in the car with me for longer than thirty minutes during one of my jam sessions, but she sings right along with me. As I look back on this past year, I realize that college gave me so much more than just stress and exams, it gave me my best friend. And now the school year has come to a close but our friendship has only begun and I cannot wait for all the memories we make in college and beyond.
