What Not To Say To Latinas

Because we are tired of hearing it.

Whether it's just a conversation or if you're out on a date(as if that isn't tough enough), what may complicate things is throwing stereotypes in the mix. Although there are no set rules on what you can or can't say on a date, there are some things that us Latina's prefer not to hear. As much as we would like to pretend that you didn't just say some of these things, they happen every time.

1. "So, uh ... what are you?"

I'm human. What are you?

2. "So are you here legally ... or?

Did you seriously just go there?

3. "You're caliente, spicy ..."

Last time I checked I was a person, not food ...

4. "You have a fiery temper, it's probably because you're Latina."

The reason for my temper is probably at how annoyed I am by you, not my ethnicity.

5. "You should teach me Spanish."

... sometimes I even forgot some words in both languages. Plus, I think that's what Rosetta Stone is for.

6. "Can I call you mami? Can you call me Papi?"

... because that's just gross.

7. "I dated a Latina once and she was crazy."

... and you're telling me this why? I'm sure your actions had something to do with it, though.

8. "I can speak Spanish too see, uno, dos, tres, tacos, burritos, chimichanga ..."

Like butchering our names isn't already enough, so don't mock our langue. Kudos to those who can actually hold a conversation though.

9. "Latina huh? That's exotic."

We are not animals at a zoo, or here for your fetish.

And if you made it past number three, the one sure thing that could make any Latina run away is ...

10. "Donald Trump would make a great president."

Bye.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
