Bully
verb
gerund or present participle: bullying
- use superior strength or influence to intimidate (someone), typically to force him or her to do what one wants.
This definition is so important even at my age. I'm almost 21. It's a bit ridiculous that I still have bullies at my age, but I guess it's not uncommon. These bullies range from all aspects of life, not just one. Usually at some point in your life you will encounter someone who teases you, or emotional burdens you. This isn't only about me, this is about millions of children being bullied to the point on self-harm and emotional distress. I can't say I am the strongest person, but I can say that I am confident in myself and what I am doing with this life, and I refuse to let someone take my pride away from me in my 20's.
I don't just have one bully, I feel that I have had many. Whether it be back-handed comments or just rude remarks, that is bullying. To the point of repetition, that is bullying. To the point of re-evaluating your accomplishments, that is bullying. To the point of emotional distress, that is bullying. The list goes on and on and I can't stand for it anymore. For myself and for others. I understand people go through different stages in their life and it can get hard, but there is no reason for people to still bully each other as adults. As if life isn't hard enough growing up with a bully, who would want to deal with it in their twenties as they are going through college, a lifestyle change or a new job?
I want to tell all of you bullies what I think about what you're doing. Not only are you causing harm to the individual, but you're causing harm to YOURSELF. Yes, newsflash, you're not as strong as you think you are for putting down someone weaker than you. You're deteriorating yourself, and others around you. So why? Why is this necessary? To bully the kids physically smaller than you to feel power, to bully your sibling or your friends? Exactly. There is no point. You have to find confidence in yourself for your accomplishments, not put down others for theirs.
I feel that at some point in everyone's life, they get bullied in some way, shape or form. Sometimes, those people turn into the bullies. This is a vicious cycle and it seems almost impossible to stop. But when you look around, what do you see? Do you see friends? Do you see yourself as a confident person? Do you see your life worth living? Life is worth living, you have no right to take away someone's' will to succeed in their own way with their life. When you go through social media's like Facebook or Instagram, do you think it's appropriate to comment rude things on other people's pictures or status'? Is it really helping YOU in the long run?
I hope these short messages can make you think about what you're doing. I hope you can look at yourself and make this very important change not only for yourself, but for those around you. I can't speak for everyone, but I can at least speak about how I feel from personal experience and from friends' perspectives. We all have a duty to lift each other up, not tear one-another down for the sake of our own self-esteems.
