What My Roommate Should Know

I wouldn't want to share a small space with anyone else.

To my dear roommate who has become my best friend,

Let me start off with a thank-you for a few of many things. 1. Thank you for letting me eat every single one of your bagels and wear your clothes every day. 2. Thank you for making me place both feet on the ground before turning off the horribly loud music so I'll wake up. 3. Thank you for loving me after I make very bad decisions.

But like I said, those were only a few things I owe a thank you to. Having you as my roommate is so much more than that. It's having another best friend in your life, to add to the long list of bridesmaids. It's laughing until 5 in the morning the night before our first finals. It's coming up with ridiculous, diabolical plans at wee hours of the morning that would probably send us to standards, or even jail, and then laughing again at 2 p.m. the next day because we even thought of such absurd scenarios.

Having you as a roommate has taught me life lessons. It's taught me how to not be so selfish. To save the last granola bar for you, considering you did buy them. To go to class with wet hair so I don't wake you up with the blow drier. I've learned to share my boyfriend. Correction, *our* boyfriend. I've learned to open up more. And after living with you, I don't know how much more open we could get. I'm sure I can get annoying at times, I have no doubt in my mind, so thank you for doing the same for me.

Dear roommate, when you're gone and I sleep in the room alone, it makes me wonder how I ever slept peacefully before college. When the room is empty, I text you to come back. When you leave to do homework because we don't accomplish anything together, I FaceTime you and we still both don't accomplish anything. Obsessive? No, just roomie love.

I know it is a cliché, but freshman year would not be the same without you in my life. Nor will sophomore, junior, or senior year. So I thank you. Thanks for being my other half and, according to everyone in our sorority, being my "roommate goals."

I wouldn't want to see anyone else's face in a disaster of a room every day.

Sincerely,

The girl who hid the pretzels from you so you wouldn't eat them

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
