What It Means To Live In A Triple

As the school year is progressively coming to a close, I've been reflecting on my past moments of the recent year, and especially all of the memories I've made while living in the Pi Beta Phi sorority house. There have been so many laughs, late nights, and strengthened friendships. Some of the best memories I've had came from sitting up late at night with my roommates, talking, gossiping, and laughing ourselves to sleep. However, before I recommend living in a triple, I need to let you know what you're getting yourself into, especially when you live in a sorority house. Here's what it means to live in a triple:

1. You won't ever get a full night's sleep without being woken up at least once. No matter the time you go to bed, one of your roommates will always be walking in late after a night out to wake you up and tell you about her night. Even worse, there will always be someone waking up bright and early for an 8 am class, turning the lights on and blow drying her hair, while you sandwich your head between two pillows.

2. You are NEVER alone. Want to call your mom? I hope you're okay with both of your roommates sitting there listening while you tell her all about your day. Alone time is very scarce in a triple. Eventually, you find yourself showering for an hour just to hear yourself think.

3. An afternoon nap is probably not gonna happen. Go ahead, try and nap. One of your roommates will probably walk in ten minutes later complaining, waking you up to tell you about something. (I'm usually the one doing the complaining, sorry roomies).

4. You'll see your roommates naked like all the time. Being modest while changing is near impossible when your roommates are sitting in opposite corners of the room, facing different directions, and regardless of the way you turn, one of them will see you in your natural state. You start to feel un-phased when your roommate stands there talking to you while you're butt naked in between an outfit change.

5. There isn't even room to breathe because three people's stuff is crammed into one room. Even in a completely clean and tidy room you are barely able to walk the perimeter of the room because of all the beds, desks, backpacks, storage containers, etc. But imagine when your room isn't clean, which ours normally isn't. Now you have to hop, skip, and jump, just to get into bed.

6. You'll end up sleeping in each others beds all the time. Living in the bottom bunk is probably my least favorite thing about living in a triple. You go to bed with your hair in a bun and the next morning when you sit up its stuck to the springs of the top bunk bed. So, eventually, you cuddle up to your roommate who has her own bed and you sleep there, until she kicks you out.

7. Say goodbye to doing homework in your room. I tell myself every night that I will get through two chapters in my book or start working on that paper that's due next week, but when you're in your room that's not gonna happen. You are distracted by your two roommates talking and when you begin to chime in on the conversation suddenly it's one in the morning and you're exhausted. When you need to get homework done, pack up and go to the library before it's too late, trust me.

8. They are usually random people just hanging out in there. Between the three of you there is probably one of your friends in there hanging with either you or your roommates so having four, five, or six people crammed into your tiny room isn't uncommon.

9. You probably have a group chat between the three of you. Even when you're not together, you're still. always. together.

10. You always get talked into going out. While you're laying in your bed planning to have a nice night in watching Netflix and catching up on sleep, both of your roommates are trying on all your clothes, blasting music, and getting ready together. They don't need to do much to persuade you, you're already half way convinced before they even have to beg.

11. LOL'ing at Netflix is that much more embarrassing. All the gasps, laughs, and tears you experience while watching your favorite show is now witnessed by your roommates and they'll probably make fun of you for it.

12. You have three closets. Triple the clothes = triple the outfit choices = triple the amount of time that it takes to get ready. But, you never have to repeat an outfit again.

13. Also, three times the amount of snacks. I know you're trying to give up sweets but when your roommate has a whole bag of Reese's on her desk, how can you resist?

14. There is always someone to talk/vent to. There have been way to many instances where I have come into the room raging about something that just happened to me. When this happens, one of my roommates is sitting there ready to listen to me and to tell me I'm right (even when I'm not), or to hug me until I'm happy again. Which leads me to my next point...

15. Crying in front of people becomes normal. If you're embarrassed to cry in front of people, you should probably not live in a triple. Without much alone time, your roommates will experience every break up, mental break down, fight with your parents, and so on, side by side with you. And they will be there to hold you while you cry for every single one of them.

16. There will be times when you're on the floor laughing hysterically. Maybe it's remembering stories about the night before, or maybe you're just really slap happy, but whatever it is, you end up on the floor laughing so hard that you're gasping for air at something your roommate has told you.

17. You're never, ever bored. You know those times in the summer when you parents are at work and your siblings are at their friends houses and you're so bored you don't even know what to do with yourself? Yeah, you'll never experience that while living in a triple. Late night pizza deliveries become frequent, and dancing in your room to throwback music is more common than you want to admit.

18. you learn to share everything: clothes, blankets, food, memories, secrets, etc. Sharing is caring, right?

19. You instantly gain two best friends. Even though you spend every waking moment with them, you still can't get enough of them. You may argue, or get sick of each other, or never get enough sleep, but they are your best friends and you wouldn't want to live under any other conditions. You get friendships that will last you forever, and they mean more to you than anything else.

20. And even better, you eventually gain two sisters. Even though they're probably already your sorority sisters, you know what I mean.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
