7 Reasons You Should Live In Your Sorority House
Taylor Leigh

Before I came to college, I knew I wanted to join a sorority. Despite this, before I came to college, I never had the desire to live in a sorority house. I was apprehensive enough about the dorms, but living in a house with 30 other girls? Sounds like a recipe for disaster, right? How wrong was I.

After I got over my initial fear of communal living my freshman year in the dorms, living in a sorority house sounded much less intimidating. As spring quarter came around and it was time to decide on housing for the next year, I had the attitude of "Why the hell not?" and signed up to live in my sorority house. After half a year of living in, I do not regret my decision at all, even though I was a disbeliever before. Here are seven reasons why you should live in your sorority house while you have the chance.

1. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity

When will you ever again get to live in a house with 30 other girls that you call sisters? When will you get to live in a house that bears your sorority's letters and is home to your chapter's charter? You can always live in an apartment, but you'll only have one chance to ever live in your sorority house. Live life with no regrets!

2. You'll never be alone (when you don't want to be!)

It's the best of both worlds. You can retreat to the privacy of your room when you're feeling like hiding from the world, but when you're feeling lonely there will always be someone around to talk with, study with or cook with. The odds of this happening in any other living situation are slim. Need your alone time? Don't worry, me too; but I never feel suffocated by the activity or the amount of people at the house.

3. It's where all the action happens!

Weekly meetings, sisterhood events, trainings, study hours and more all take place at the house. It is so convenient to just be able to walk downstairs to any of these events, or to sneak off to the kitchen when you need a snack, or upstairs when you have a fashion disaster (Me during recruitment.)

4. You get to live with 30+ friends

When will this ever happen again? The next best thing you could do would be to live in an apartment with what? Max, 5 other girls?

5. It's cuter and cleaner than your apartment would be

Let's be real, if you lived in an apartment you probably wouldn't clean your bathroom or kitchen multiple times a week like the services the house provides. Yes, it can get a little messy with so many girls sometimes, but if you really hate cleaning, you can always rely on house cleaning. Also, sorority houses furniture and interior decorating are usually A+ (much nicer than the furniture you would have bought from Ikea for your apartment.)

6. Lots of food

There always seems to be yummy food at my house - whether it be leftovers from Monday night dinner, samples that companies drop by, or surprise treats from sisters. I swear we get dropped off cases of Rockstar every week, but I don't see anyone complaining. Most sorority houses have chefs which is even better!

7. Sisterhood

Living in the house has allowed me to hangout with sisters I probably wouldn't have had the opportunity to before. Living together has the great potential to bring people together, as they spend so much time together doing mundane activities - brushing your teeth, cooking dinner, doing homework. Living in the house brings you both closer to your sisters and sisterhood, as you're literally surrounded by both of them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
