Working in retail is one of the most stressful jobs someone could ask for. With crazy customers and interesting coworkers, you never know what to expect when you clock in. With years of experience in the field, I have found that making a joke about the job is what really helps make it that much more bearable. Spongebob of all people knows what it's like. Here are a few examples:
When you don't know anyone in the break room.
When you get to leave early.
When you go on break and they get busy.
When you're super slow and have all of your stuff done.
When a customer says they're gonna give you a good review.
When your manager says your doing a good job.
When you're trying to close and there are customers still in the store.
When you look at your paycheck after you picked up an extra shift.
When you are an hour into your shift.
When you actually know where the product the customer wants is.
When you don't know where it is.
When you work an early shift instead of the closing one.
When your manager tells the customer exactly what you just told them.
When you had a hard day.
When this happens...
When a customer tries to get you to change the price.
When your employee discount gets put on your receipt.
When someone helps you with a problem on your register.
When you get home after a whole shift of not eating.
When you see a customer seems mad and you pawn it off on your coworker.
When you work more than one day in a row.
When a customer says to take your time and they understand that you're busy.
When someone asks if you work here.
When someone asks you to pick up their shift.
What you would be doing if you quit your retail job.
After years of experience and many stories to tell, I wouldn't trade it over anything. I have learned many life lessons in interacting with others and how to adapt to any situation. I have made many friends and couldn't ask for anything more from the field. The best way to get through some of the stress is to laugh it off and make the best out of it. Thank you Spongebob for understanding what it's like to work in retail.
