The other day I was at a local coffee shop and noticed a few situations that really stuck in my mind. One of the customers complimented a worker on her beauty and the worker responded by saying, "Oh I'm always a mess, but I'm nothing close to what you think I am." I was standing in line filled with confusion, because how could that worker say that about herself? She was beautiful like the customer told her.
Then I saw was a worker rushing into work (most likely running late). One of her co-workers complimented her on her outfit she was wearing and the co-worker running late responded by saying, "Oh I know I'm fabulous, I never had a doubt about it."
These are two completely different situations that had two different outcomes. One person rejected the compliment they received and talked negative about themselves, while the other person accepted the compliment and talked positively about themselves. It has become socially acceptable to turn down compliments about ourselves and turn them into excuses of why we think we aren't "that way."
However, there are some situations in life where people can't be so quick to accept themselves positively. Self-love is very difficult and it takes time. Trust me, I know because I'm still working on it. Every day is a struggle, but the first step to success is to accept the positiveness that comes your way. Because once you start accepting the positivity, you then start believing it.
Self-love doesn't start overnight, or magically becomes relevant after one day. It all takes time and effort because that's what life is about. Giving time and effort to something will give you a huge reward in the future.
So today I challenge you to one thing. Sit down and think hard about one simple question. What do you like about yourself? This could be difficult for some people, but I believe that every single person can think of at least one thing they like about themselves. Once you think about that one thing, continue in the future to think of more qualities you like about yourself.
Always keep these qualities that you like about yourself in the back of your head. Always remember you have so many positive things about yourself that make you complete. After you spend some time and effort into thinking of things you like about yourself, you will then begin to think of things you finally LOVE about yourself.
