What I've Learned From Being The Daughter Of A Strong Woman

I was raised by the strongest woman I've ever met. She is not only a strong woman but, a strong mother. She didn't have an easy upbringing. She had to work hard to put herself through school. She also had to work her hardest to become so high up in her field in a man's world. Not only all of that but she also had to manage raising a such a "spirited" child alone for a couple of years. My mom can run a household, an office, still keep herself up and not even break a sweat.

She made a way for herself and taught me to do nothing less.

Here is a list of things I learned from being the daughter of a strong woman.

1. Don’t let other people’s accomplishments intimidate you.

Use it to feed your hunger for success.

2. Don’t apologize for being successful.

You worked for it.

3. Or for having a voice.

It’s better to speak up, than to not speak up at all.

4. Don’t let other people’s accomplishments intimidate you.

Use it to feed your success.

5. Empower other women; don’t compete with them.

6. Brush it off.

There will always be people who put you down, but don’t mind them. The way they act is more about them than you.

7. Do things every day that make you feel pretty.

When you feel beautiful, you look beautiful.

8. Be humble.

Sometimes the cockiest people are also the most insecure.

9. When someone tells you that you can’t do something, do it anyways.

And do it well.

10. You can go it alone.

And it’s better to be by yourself than unhappy with someone else.

11. Do your squats.

Feel blessed to have a big booty.

12. Don’t go to sleep with your makeup on.

Your skin will thank you that night, that month and in 20 years.

13. It’s okay to love yourself.

Self-Confidence is what it's all about.

14. In order to lift yourself up, don’t knock someone else down.

It also doesn't make you into the person you want to be.

15. Don’t compare yourself to other women.

Everyone is their own person with their own strengths and weaknesses.

16. Take pride in being a woman.

We’re so much luckier than men are.

17. Your body's a temple.

Be respectful, kind and loving to it. And don't just give it up to any Joe Blow on the street.

18. Don’t write your story before you’ve even opened the book.

Things change and plans change. Let life happen.

19. Don’t let boys be mean to you.

If they make you cry, then they were never worth it to begin with.

20. Forgiving someone doesn’t make you a doormat.

It makes you healthy and happier too.

21. And apologizing doesn’t make you weak.

It shows growth and maturity.

22. Accept a compliment with a smile.

But inside you can scream "Hell. Yeah."

23. If a guy wants to give you a gift, let him.

And no, it doesn’t mean you owe him anything.

24. It’s okay to cry.

And to laugh, and to scream. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn't.

25. Sleeping around won’t make you feel good.

Your body should only be shared with most special person.

26. Focus your energy on making yourself better and speaking positively...

...not making others worse or wasting time on negativity.

27. Wear red lipstick, and own it.

28. If someone wrongs you, let it go, and move on.

Success is the best revenge.

29. Don’t aim to be perfect, aim to have humanity.

30. The three best things in life are chocolate, sarcasm, and sex.

And that's the truth!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
