The season has arrived. Once it turned November 1st, my body automatically shut down and turned to the dark side.
It is now Nov. 28th and I have gone from a minor cold to a double ear infection, to a sinus infection, to bronchitis, and finally to pneumonia. Am I really surprised?
All throughout high school, I managed to get sick more than the average teenager and I still have that problem today, in college (which is 10x worse). You know you have a bad immune system when your cabinet under your sink is full of DayQuil, NyQuil, Advil, Advil PM, Extra Strength Tylenol, etc. I am a victim of poor immunity.
To be honest, I'm not even sure what its like to have a good immune system. I take vitamins. I workout. My immune system wins the battle 90% of the time. Especially during these next few winter months. I've already taken an L in this battle.
You have a poor immune system if you can relate to the following:
1. Your friends constantly say, "aren't you always sick?" or "haven't you been sick forever?" YES, I HAVE. THANKS FOR THE REMINDER.
2. Like I said above, your medicine cabinet is your own mini pharmacy. And you have a to-go bag prepared. Hit me up if ya need medicine!
3. You have daily reminders on your phone for when to take the certain medicines you are taking.
4. The majority of the time, in your cup, you have green tea with honey to soothe your throat.
5. You feel like you're constantly cleaning or doing laundry to try and de-germ.
6. You've established a set time in your day to nap and get the rest necessary to start feeling better and get that energy back.
7. You're always looking for an elevator because you know if you walk up those stairs, you will be out of breath.
8. Your friends (and boyfriend) start to distance themselves from you because you're a germ they're running from.
9. Your local health center knows you so well that your information is always up to date.
10. You're always the target because who else could have gotten you sick?
11. Every time you go to the store, you end up buying tissues.
12. Cough drops have become like candy to you. When you're out, it's full panic mode.
13. You find ways to get crap done.
14. You cough and people look at you as if you're a walking germ with swine flu.
15. You've accepted your liquid diet.
16. You start to realize all that comes out of your mouth is complaints.
17. You use your "3 skip days" for each class within the first half of the semester.
18. You constantly find yourself saying, "I will start my diet and workout once I am healthy again." Which ends up being never.
"You have a lot of problems, " they say. Yes, I do. My health may not be in tip top shape and I may deal with those 18 instances on a daily basis, but that's what makes me special. Right?
XOXO,
Alyssa Ellyn
