Three years ago, when you told me college flies by, I didn’t believe you. I thought college would take its sweet time and I would be able try a lot of new things before graduation. Well, half of that is true. I did get to experience new things, but I did not expect these past three years to fly by. What’s even crazier is that I did not expect to graduate early.
Heading into my last semester of college is something I always thought would take forever before the day came. Now, in just four short months, I’ll be walking the stage with a degree in my hand.
I can’t help but reminisce about the memories I’ve made these past three years. From getting lost on the first day of classes to landing a wonderful internship, I’ve realized that your time in college can never be replaced. It’s the time where you learn a lot about yourself and grow as a person.
If you were to ask if I have changed in college, my answer would be definitely. Although my goals have stayed the same throughout college, my personality has changed. You learn a lot about yourself in college as well. You become the person you want to be and the person others admire. However, one thing hasn’t changed, and that is the feeling of what you’re going to do after college.
Fear.
It’s common to be uncertain of what you’re going to do after college. There are so many options. You want to be able to pick something in which you know you’ll succeed in after because we fear rejection. We fear of not being good enough for a certain job or graduate school.
With all the options after graduation, it’s hard to pick what exactly we want to do after.
The stress of applying to jobs and constantly fearing that we will get rejected. The anxiety of taking the GRE and fearing we will not get a good enough score to get into graduate school. Applying to your dream graduate school, but fearing there is someone better than us, and alas we get rejected.
The feeling of fear is common going into your last semester of college because there is so much to do and you are truly considered being independent.
Although it is common to be uncertain and scared about the future, there is so much to look forward to. With a degree in hand, you are able to get a job, make money, and ultimately start life on your own.
So entering this semester knowing it’ll be my last, there are going to be some things I am scared of, but with all I’ve learned these past three years, there is nothing to be scared of. In fact, the only thing to fear, is fear itself.
It’s time to make this my best semester yet and it’s time to take on the world. I’m ready.
