What it Means To Be A Friend
Life Hacks

It’s true when people say that finding true friendship is difficult. However, when you see it, you’ll know what it is, because you start to develop that one special bond or connection. The defining moments of friendship for some people is that a true friend is a soulmate who helps you through your downs and witnesses your ups. It could be a friend who helps through the pain of losing someone you love, or someone who talks to you for hours and spends time with you to have fun. Huge things or small, it’s the actions that seem to be counted the most when it comes to quality of a friendship. Having friends is not about the quantity, but the quality of the friends. If you have at least just that one person you can count on, you won’t have that feeling of loneliness. I believe that it is better to have a few friends who truly care about you than a huge group of friends. The smaller the group, the easier it is to connect with them. A true friend understands you, even when you are silent. Just by looking into your eyes, that friend can tell what’s going on in your mind.

Although friendship seems like a simple bond, it involves a great deal of trust and mutual respect. Losing that one friend whom you love for one silly mistake is a soul ripper and makes you feel like a part of your heart has been ripped out. Keeping a true friend means you should never turn your backs on them. Making a good friend is like adding a new family member. It involves risks as well as responsibilities. Now with social media reaching its peak, it has changed our perception of friendship. When we see that deadly “seen” message on Facebook, we suspect that someone is ignoring us, and it could complicate things. The depressing thought of “friends come and go” can really bring pain in your life, which is why we should not take our true friends for granted. People eventually do move on if things like this happen, but deep inside is regret and wishful thinking to have that friend or friends back. You should cherish your friends as if you only had one day left with them; true friends truly are special people. To me, they are the gifts from God.

"Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born." - Anais Nin

You will make amazing friendships in life, but the key to keeping a long friendship bond is to be open. Using social media is an excellent way to keep in contact with your friends, especially if you’re going through a bad day and you need someone to talk to.

"A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you." - Elbert Hubbard

A true friend who knows almost everything about you, including your deepest, darkest of secrets, will still love you no matter what. That friend will never leave your side and will help you make it through whatever you’re experiencing. This is what true friends are like; they are always there for you regardless of what they know about you, they will help you go through your downs and spend some time with you. If you ever need anyone to talk to, a true friend is a great place to start because they almost always know what to say to make you feel better and get you back on your feet again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
