What it is like to be a Bird Mom

Dogs and cats are great and all, but birds talk

Sure, dogs and cats are great pets, but what if you're allergic to them? Reptiles are an option but your roommate is afraid of snakes (even though you love them). Rodents are too smelly, and fish are just too boring. What about a bird? There are so many options and they come in all different sizes and colors. They may be a little high maintenance, but if you take care of them correctly you won't have any other pet that loves you as much as a bird will.

You may be a bird person if....

1. You have baby toys all around your house but no actual children

Why buy expensive bird toys when toddler and baby toys are way cheaper. Your bird likes them just as much if not even more...so save the extra $10 and buy some mega blocks for your feathery friend.

2. You prepare food that your bird can eat with you

Bonding with your bird is so important, and dinner time is a great time to do that! He or she will be forever grateful for that slice of carrot you give them off your plate...even if it may be a little strange

3. You rush home from work or school to have "out" time with your bird

Being cooped in a cage all day is no fun, so you have to let them explore every day. You and your bird look forward to it, especially when they do a cute little dance for you when you play them music.

4. Bird seed, bird seed everywhere

If you're a bird owner you know how much bird seed gets everywhere. Its just a thing, if you have a lot of carpet in your house you'll find yourself doing A LOT of vacuuming. Hard wooden floors are much easier for cleaning purposes. Plus the broom doesn't frighten your animals as much.

5. While other people whip out pictures of their kids/grandkids you have other pictures

You love your bird as much as your own child...so naturally you have a lot of pictures of them. Its not weird, you bird is very cute so other people should appreciate that too. Even after you showed them all the pictures of your dog and cat too.

6. Your house is always musical

Your bird loves to sing, especially with with birds outside so you always have something to listen to. When you turn your own music on, your bird just sings 10 times harder.

7. Smokers are banned from your house

Smoke is really bad for your feathery friend so you try your best to keep your home smoke free. Even if your old friend from college throws a little fit, they'll survive standing in the cold.

8. Visitors have to hurry in and out of your house

If the door is open too long someone might try to fly out of the house...hint: it isn't the dog

9. You have to be really quiet in the morning

If you want some time to yourself in the morning you'll have to be really quiet. Even a sneeze starts a screaming fest because your bird wants attention, and some fresh veggies and fruits to nibble on

10. You leave the house to find a little "surprise" on your arm or shoulder

Bird poop isn't pleasant so be sure to check yourself before you leave the house. I can't tell you how many times I've left to find some on my arm from when my bird was sitting on me.

11. You know more about birds than any normal person should

You've done a lot of research throughout the years, you may call yourself an expert. Trivia night is always fun when the animal category comes around.

12. Feathers.

Not only do you have cat and dog hair on your clothes...you'll find little small feathers in your shoes. Its always an interesting thing to explain to others.

13. You're always wanting another feathery friend

Birds are so much fun. Even though they're a handful, you're always wishing you could get that expensive macaw you saw online...your little friend will do for now, though.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
