Did I not look good before? Why do people only say this now that I’m 60 pounds lighter and my face is slimmer and I’ve got a little less belly fat? Unfortunately today’s society views skinny as sexy, so once you start to fit into the norm, then it’s a good thing. Yeah, losing weight was awesome. It took a lot of hard work and dedication, but the fight is not yet over. Weight loss is a life long journey both physically and mentally and will never be completely won.
You still buy clothes that are baggy and big on you.
You’re so used to buying baggy clothes to cover up your body because you were bigger than the others. You were and still are insecure about your body, no matter how much you’ve lost and how good you feel. Tight clothes will almost never be comfortable for you. You still feel like you’re not skinny enough and the tight clothes just showcase what you’re not ready to show.
You overthink every little thing you eat or drink.
You wish you could just be one of those people who could eat a huge meal and never gain a pound. Unfortunately, with your metabolism, you will probably never be able to do this. You look at the nutritional facts of everything you eat just to see how many calories you’re eating or drinking. Then you instantly feel guilty once you’ve indulged in chips and guacamole from Chipotle or the Venti iced coffee with cream and sugar. It’s all just calories to you.
One pound feels like 10.
Gaining weight is the worst. You’ve seen your smallest number, and you’ve seen your body fluctuate around it. Every now and then you gain some weight, and sometimes you gain a little more than expected, but every single pound just feels like a failure. It feels like you’re taking steps backwards and letting yourself down. One pound might not seem like a lot, but you can feel every pound added on your body.
No matter how many times you are told you’re skinny, you can’t wholeheartedly believe it.
It’s hard to believe you’re skinny because you have been the “fat” person for so long. You were always larger than everyone else and just learned to accept it. You tried to not let it define you, but you always thought about it. Now that people call you skinny, it’s hard to believe. You appreciate everyone saying it, but you have to work on believing it yourself.
You will probably always be a larger size than the “skinniest” people.
Models today are size 0 or 2, and then there’s the people who are sizes 8, 10, 12, etc. These sizes are a huge accomplishment for you because you have always been the larger sizes, but once you see the cute size 2 shorts you instantly hate your size. The clothes are still as cute and they fit you well, but unfortunately the number defines all nowadays.
Ultimately, you have to learn to love yourself. You have to remember the journey that you have been on and the one that you have ahead of you. No matter what size or shape you are, you are beautiful. We need to overcome our thoughts and see the beauty that shines from within. We are all beautiful in our own ways. Remember, beauty is a figment of human imagination. It is what you make of it. Love yourself no matter what because you are beautiful and just.
