In college, and in life, us ladies face many expectations...

The expectations of our fellow women:

Let's be honest, girls are brutal to one another; judgment, resentment, jealousy, betrayal, and hatred are constantly spreading like wildfires. It doesn't have to be like that, though.

The media's expectations:

It tells us how we should look, act, speak, dress, and feel. Sure, there are times when those messages are beneficial and should be taken into consideration. Most of the time, however, it's just a bunch of garbage. We don't have to listen.

Boys' expectations:

Not all boys are bad, really. Most of them are actually okay. But, as most girls know by now, there are a lot of jerks out there. We don't have to let them hurt us.

The expectations of life:

Go to the best school. Meet the right person. Pick the perfect friends. Find the perfect job. Get a 4.0. Move out of the house after college. Lose weight. Gain weight. Don't eat that hamburger. Make sure your makeup is perfect. Have big muscles, but not too big. Get engaged after graduation. Money, money, money.

Being a girl is no joke. There are tornadoes of expectations, spiraling around us constantly. It's exhausting and overwhelming. These expectations come from many different parts of our lives. We can let these expectations define us...or we can embrace our inner badass and say, "NO. This is my life!"

You can let these current and future expectations get to you (its okay if they do sometimes), or you can be the college girl who does these 15 things:

1. Lifts girls up.

2. Refuses to be resentful.

3. Never apologizes for being who she is.

4. Loves the boy who treats her like gold.

5. Forgives the boy who blew his shot.

6. Finds the silver lining in every chaotic life situation.

7. Eats the hamburger.

8. Loves her friends and family.

9. Is organized and dedicated.

10. Understands that it's okay to not be okay sometimes.

Be the college girl who carves her own path. Be the college girl who loves. Be the college girl who is strong and willing.

Be awesome.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
