What is SDT Greek Grind?

For the past twelve years, Sigma Delta Tau’s Greek Grind has remained the largest and most anticipated Greek philanthropic event on the University of Georgia's campus. In fact, when tickets go out for sale, they are almost immediately sold out. Every October, teams from all 18 sororities come together to compete in an exhilarating dance competition to benefit Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA), Sigma Delta Tau’s National Cause. This incredible night of entertainment gets bigger and better each year as the Panhellenic community competes for monetary donations to go towards their own philanthropy of choice, and the extremely sought after title of SDT Greek Grind Champions. Participation in SDT Greek Grind is open to all Panhellenic sororities.

How does it all work?

Each sorority elects 15 to 30 members to dance and represent their sorority in our event. These sororities compete at a live performance held annually at the Classic Center. Each team is judged based on factors such as performance, costume, use of the theme, and originality. SDT does not participate in the competition because we host the exciting event. However, SDT always closes the show with a great performance to impress the crowd and showcase our SDT spirit and dedication to PCAA. We are proud to say our event has achieved greater success with each year. Every year, videos from the event go viral. In fact, some dances have over 39,000 views. We are extremely proud of the fact that we are the largest Panhellenic philanthropy on campus, and we strive to make this year ever better than ever! Last year, we raised $89,000 and look forward to continuing to support this incredible cause. This year’s event will be held on October 19th, 2016 at the Classic Center theatre in downtown Athens, Georgia. Jerzees will also host livestreaming of the event so that everyone can get to see the incredible night!

Where does my money go?

Over the past few years, we have raised well over $100,000, and we look forward to providing more help to Prevent Child Abuse America. Prevent Child Abuse America works to promote the healthy development of children and prevent child abuse before it can occur. Preventing child abuse allows children to grow up happily and ultimately contribute in their communities. PCAA helps nearly 100,000 families a year through our Healthy Families America program and puts 92 cents of every dollar raised towards programs that help children and families thrive.

The entire Panhellenic community is so excited to Unleash The Grind on October 19th with host Girl With No Job! The night will be one to remember, so make sure to get your ticket!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
