What Is Deplorable?

Hillary Clinton used the colorful wording of "basket of deplorables" to describe half the supporters of Donald Trump earlier in the campaign season. She was criticized for generalizing a whole group of people and rightfully so. But with the new video of Donald Trump's comments back in 2005, we need to ask ourselves a really important question. What is deplorable?

Donald Trump has made several ignorant comments before this video was leaked. He targeted the Khan family, whose son lost his life while fighting in the United States military. Donald Trump also has said that he knows more than the generals. He said that African-Americans will vote for him because they are "living in hell." However, we have brushed this all off. When do we label him deplorable and his supporters deplorable?

Conservatism and Donald Trump are not equals. Before running for the Office of the Presidency, Donald Trump held views that were in stark contrast to the Republican Platform. We don't know his concrete plans for dealing with the issues that this country faces because he refuses to release details. For all we know, his beliefs are still in stark contrast to conservatism.

The supporters of Donald Trump must seriously reevaluate the candidate they are supporting. These recent comments by Donald Trump are vile, disgusting, and must be argued against. The comments that have recently surfaced are deplorable as well as the many other statements that he has made during the campaign trail. Top Senate and Congressional Republicans are beginning to see that Donald Trump is destroying the Republican Party and are distancing themselves from him.

Rhetoric matters and the children of this country and the world will look up to the President of the United States for leadership. We can't have our children looking up to someone who talks about sexually assaulting women and getting what they want because they are a celebrity. This is not okay
