The Office could be the only show that can make a standard work environment seem like the most entertaining setting on television. Whether it is the genius comedy styles of Steve Carell or the phenomenal pranks, The Office has captured the hearts of millions over its nine-season journey.
The beauty of this show is that it is able to appeal to almost any emotion. By that I mean, no matter what mood an individual is in, this show is the perfect remedy. I experience this theory every time I watch the show. I have been livid, happy, weary, hungry, and annoyed, and this show has always been exactly what I needed.
Steve Carell perfectly played the role of Regional Manager, Michael Scott. To be honest, I base my entire personality on this character. His quick jokes and hilarious impressions show that even the most boring job can create great opportunities to be a comedian. Many haters of the show think that Scott is an awkward, crude, and stupid individual, but I see him as an artist. Michael Scott is genuine; he is dedicated, and loyal. Michael Scott is there for his employees and gives the audience hope for the future. In the episode Booze Cruise, Michael Scott gave the greatest advice in the series when he spoke to heartbroken Jim Halpert. Scott told him to “Never, ever, ever give up.” This was the motivation in Halpert’s life that led him to get the girl of his dreams.
In future articles, I am going to explore specific moments and characters of this show in more depth in order to explain why it was a huge success, and why it continues to succeed.
