Every since the Mercury Retrograde started shifting every emotion I could think of, I would say my emotional intake is at a minimum. Scratch that, it's at a maximum. Toward the end of the summer, I would cry randomly in my cubicle at work when I would think of how grateful I am, but then I noticed that gratitude quickly turned into sorrow. Then that sorrow would turn into a lingering depression or slight melancholia, and I didn't know what was triggering my emotions until I realized the planets were shifting. There were many times I felt like the weight of the world was on my shoulders, and today is unfortunately one of those days.
Not only has the solar eclipse done a number on me, but it's affected the entire world as a whole. There are multiple floods going on, disastrous hurricanes, riots, acts such as the DACA act that is being threatened to get eliminated and so on. Everything that goes on in the world affects us whether you realize it or not and if it hasn't taken an emotional toll on you then it's time to wake up and pay attention.
The state of Texas and Louisiana suffered a massive hurricane last weekend. Hurricane Harvey left streets, homes, and neighborhoods flooded. Children had to sit in refrigerators while getting carried by family members. Women and children has to get carried by firefighters and rescue teams. A mother drowned trying to save her 3 year old child. You see why the weight is so heavy? People are affected by situations they have no control over and I know things like this happen everyday but sitting around and letting it happen is no longer acceptable.
The United States is a melting pot of immigrants from all over the world. Beautiful people that only wants to make their lives better for them and their families. Where is the threat in someone making an honest living? Because their skin may be darker, eyes may be bigger, and their accent may be thicker? What difference does it make? They should get a pat on the back rather than the boot, it doesn't make any sense. We all bleed the same.
I never understood where a person came from or what they looked like negatively determined who they were as an individual. There is so much hate in this world for no reason at all. This is why I feel like the weight of the world is on my shoulders because life is real is out here.
Immigrants and people of color are constantly getting reminded that they are in the way of America's progress when people fail to remember, America wouldn't be what it is without immigrants and people of color.
I just hope people recognize the union in United and the human in Humanity because we are nothing without each other.
