It would be wrong to say that Donald Trump is an exemplary everyday American who is running for the presidency because he truly believes in "making America great again." He has no doubt made everyone uncomfortable at some point or another in his rantings about worker documentation and our nation's distribution of wealth. But is making people uncomfortable any worse than lying about how he truly stands on the pressing issues our nation is facing today? Donald Trump is fighting against the political correctness our country expects from our leaders, and that is what he's doing right.
There has to be a point when we all get tired of hearing the same opinions on the same topics over and over again from presidential candidates. For instance, it's great that Hillary Clinton preaches tax reforms, but so does every other candidate trying to win votes by telling middle-class Americans what they want to hear, regardless of whether or not they actually believe in it. And how many presidents, both Republican and Democrat, have preached this before without pushing the issue once they get into office? I don't know about you, but I would rather hear what candidates really think and know what they consider to be most important whether I agree with them or not. I want to know that I am voting for someone that will push the issues I think are most important if they end up in the White House.
Donald Trump is pushing the envelope in every way possible in every article, interview, and debate. He may make you red with anger but at least he's being straight up about it. I will be honest with you, Trump could care less if you think he's the biggest jerk in America or not, but at least he's making us think about what it really is that we want in a President. He is showing his true self in every way, while he could be lying to each and every one of us just to get our votes. Presidential candidates don't all have to be the nice guys, because this race shouldn't be the popularity contest that it has become. Since when has political correctness become a more valued concept than honesty? It wouldn't be so bad to know how a candidate is going to truly handle issues before they end up in the Oval Office.
The fact of the matter is, there are plenty of Americans who, for whatever the reason is, agree with Donald Trump and his far from politically correct comments on often very sensitive subjects. While his winning the presidency would most likely not "make America great again," his vocalness and lack of shame for his opinions on everything from illegal immigration to welfare reform is beginning the process of making America real again.
