We spend years of our lives studying, planning for, and dreaming about college. Some people know from a young age that they will be a Hawkeye, Cyclone, Bluejay, etc.
Regardless of how we got to our alma mater, most of us do find our "home away from home" somewhere.
However, in my own experience, and through hearing about the experiences of others, it has become rather clear that there are a lot of schools I would not have been as comfortable at. As we continue to emerge as members of our collegiate communities, we begin to reflect on how we got to where we are now, and why we wouldn't want to be anywhere else!
While each school has its pros and cons, I must say that Creighton truly was the best place for me to pursue my undergraduate education. Upon this affirmation, I looked to my friends, colleagues, and fellow Bluejays to find out what it is about this Creighton community that makes it so distinctively special.
Reading through the many responses, I began to see a few trends. According to my fellow students, the top three things we love about Creighton are its welcoming community, the ambitious people, and the vast opportunities available.
One of sophomore Courtney Donahoe's favorite aspects of Creighton is the smaller size. "It makes it feel like home when you’re walking down the mall and see so many familiar faces."
A predominant sentiment shared by many of her classmates. Creighton certainly has a quaint community, where it is often said, "if you don't know somebody, you simply haven't met them yet."
Freshman Jordan Sokol loves that Creighton "emphasizes fostering an environment where people want to keep learning so they can better help other people.”
Of the people you meet here (fellow students, professors, and some faculty), all play a vital role in the communities formation and the encouraging environment.
We all push each other to become the best versions of ourselves and to "do what we're passionate about," as sophomore Jack Arkfeld points out.
Jade Cameron, a sophomore, most appropriately summed it up saying, "I love that there are people here who not only want to change the world and make it a better
Creighton is full of individuals who not only work
Sophomore, Maryann Rigo loves the way Creighton embodies the Jesuit values. She adds, "I appreciate that Creighton has made me more of a well-rounded and open-minded person, enabling me to strengthen my own views and think critically about other viewpoints as well."
A liberal arts education backed by the values of the church provides a condusive atmosphere for cultivating relationships and significant growth; a catalyst for meaningful success.
The school is constantly prompting students and faculty to engage in various activities on and off campus, which will stimulate their development and provide more opportunities for them to further explore their world and their goals.
Sophomore Vincent Salazar explains, “Creighton has many opportunities that have led to me finding what I am passionate about in life. It has allowed me to learn how I can use these passions to better not only myself, but my community, and the world."
Whether it's the welcoming community,
“I love the community we have. We all try to better one another and try to help each other when we need it. I love that I can walk down the mall and I’ll meet some familiar face and they’ll say hi even if they met me once.” - Mariam Hassan, Sophomore
“I love the people because everyone is so friendly and welcoming! They are always willing to help if you need it!” - Anne Davis, Junior
The ambitious people,
“I love the people here the most probably! The people make everything about Creighton, Creighton!” - Teresa Sample, Senior
“I love the fact that people are driven here. Everyone has goals and dreams to change the world, and they won’t settle until they do!” Sarah Kort, Sophomore
Or the vast opportunities,
“The opportunity. It’s amazing how one institution can cater to so many passions and interests that students have. " -Hibah Chugati, Sophomore
“I really love the environment of Creighton. You can walk down the mall and everyone is friendly, whether you know them or not, and how everyone is encouraging others to be involved, which is also something I love a lot–the amount of diverse opportunities at Creighton!” - Mary Pflaum, Junior
Creighton University has clearly given us all a beautiful place to live, learn, and love.
