Hello! If you're reading this, that means you're inquiring about Odyssey! Cheers to you for clicking on this, woohoo! My name is Anna Labrecque and I'm the Editor-In-Chief for Odyssey at Plymouth State University. I became EIC July 2016 when the previous EIC stepped down and recommended me for the position. Before that, I was a writer from May-June. I wasn't sure what I was to expect, but I'm still alive to tell the tale.
Sure, there have been ups and downs, but I really do enjoy being a part of Odyssey's team! I love coaching my team and helping them achieve great things! I love our conversations in the GroupMe! It took a little while for us to start talking, but when we talk, the limit does not exist (@Mean Girls). Being a part of a team, especially in college, really helps keep me social, balanced, and productive! I love how quirky my team is and that they, for the most part, are really good at submitting amazing content. It means a lot to me that they have so many stories they want to share!
My favorite part is getting to know my team and having them reach out to me. I'm easy-going, so I try to relate that back to my team and have them get to know me on a personal level as well as a professional level. When one of my creators reaches out to me and asks a questions, or for help, it makes me feel important and needed. It's so flattering that these people look up to me and are striving for success.
I love having a platform to express my creative outlet, which I think is a very important thing to do. It helps keep me sharp on my writing, which is important for me as well because I thoroughly enjoy it. I highly recommend becoming a member of Odyssey's team because it's fun! Granted, it's hard work and difficult at times, but it really is fun to share your talent with the world. Who knows, it might take off and become viral!
There are also times when I'm stressed out and frustrated. If my team has low submissions, it brings me down. Then again, people live their own busy lives and it's hard to always make time for something like this. If you want something to be a priority, you will make it one. That's what I want people to understand! WANT to be here, be PROUD of the work you've produced! I manage my team the best I can, and I'm asked to do many things, but I also have to keep my sanity.
Even when it gets frustrating, I try to think of all the benefits that being EIC has shown me! I really do love my team and I'm very thankful to have gotten this opportunity!
